Shap Wells Hotel

Characterful hotel with an interesting history. Our garden room was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. Good choice of dining options provided.

Friendly and welcoming

Great hotel rooms were large and everything we needed. Super value for money. The staff were amazing considering it was Easter and how busy they were, still managed to smile and make time for us. Would highly recommend to stay there as more than reasonable and near the Lakes and The Dales .. will definitely return… thank you guys

Best hotel so quiet and beautiful surroundings

Lovely 'ArtDeco' hidden gem off the M6. Old quaint place that looks like a set off Hercule Poirot. Dining room is like being on the Titanic ! Lovely staff and great breakfast. Enjoyed our stay.

Very pleasant staff, from arrival check in to departure this stay was first class. The hotel is quaint, traditional and provides a very pleasant atmosphere. Food selection was good and also value for money. I will certainly use the hotel again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend it to family or friends.

I went for two night stay and I was very lucky with the weather. At times it felt like summer and I was able to sit and wait for squirrels in the nearby reserve. The hotel was comfortable. I had a very nice room which was slightly old-fashioned, but then that’s how the Shap Wells hotel is. It has a very quirky lift which, when you reach the first floor, it opens at the side. Downstairs, there’s a smaller room where we had breakfast and dinner, but there’s also a couple of other areas as the hotel does cater for quite a lot of people. There’s a bar and a few odds and ends like chocolate and cans of drink that are sold at reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A couple came into dinner and sat behind me coughing and sniffing and I was very worried because I’m going in for an operation in two weeks and didn’t want a cold. I was accommodated by the young lady in charge of the dining room and moved to the bar area so I could eat my extremely nice sticky toffee pudding away from the germs. This hotel is pretty isolated, even though it’s not very far off the M6 but it’s well worth a visit and it’s so nice to have the squirrel reserve just across the road. Highly recommended.

Really nice stay, beautiful surroundings, really friendly staff, rooms dated but comfortable, great shower, fresh towels every day and the breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Seeing red squirrels

Good value hotel stay including breakfast. Staff helpful and friendly, room good size, comfortable and clean.

Great stay, lovely art deco features and a red squirrel wood just a few minutes from reception.

Staff were very helpful and property was clean and tidy, however the heating wasn't working in the room and it was very cold. Property is also a bit dated. Very good value for money overall.

Nice old place to chill in

I have read stayed at this hotel before, ideal for my dog, the food excellent. Clean and well equipped rooms. Will stay and , covenant and for the lakes

Quaint hotel - I felt was like a film Set from a bygone era .. hotel built 1833, great staff / Attentive / quiet and wilderness around Rooms small but had all needed in Restaurant large and quality of food good ! Happy to come back

We have stayed at Shap Wells many times, this visit proved as good as previous ones. We had a nice comfortable room and a very good evening meal, the following morning we had a very good breakfast. Before leaving we walked along the stream to see the red squirrels and they didn't disappoint, several were running around. Shap Wells has a great location, comfortable rooms, good food and friendly staff.
