My stay last night at the old ship was very good. The room was just right especially the comfy bed. The only problem i encountered was the sink was blocked with the water not going down the drain after use. I did mention this to a member of staff at the reception when i was checking out.

The venue is undergoing a major refurb which it tells you on the website when booking. What it doesn’t tell you is the restaurant is also closed as well as the main bar. They have a small bar next to reception area although no draught beer, & very restricted hours, often closing for periods during the day. There are no low chairs to sit outside, only raised stools which can be akward to get into if you have msk issues. There was a step up into the only entrance to the hotel so isn’t accessible for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Luckily my partner can lift mine but some may struggle. I have stayed here several times over the last few years, & will probably do so again but I don’t feel that the inconveniences are explained very clearly when booking, and the prices do not reflect this.

Fabulous, oldest hotel in Brighton but unfortunately while that added to the charm it also was apparent in the state of the rooms, however, I understand they are redoing them all in the next while. The rooms, although quite shabby looking, were clean & comfortable. Great location

I love this old hotel and enjoy the character of the rooms and maze-like hallways. The rooms are big and the bathrooms have bathtubs. That said, the bathtub/shower was absolutely filthy with pink and black scum/mildew all over the taps, tiles, and walls. I ended up cleaning some of it myself; I was very disappointed about this, as this was my second stay. I also had to request towel changes. I love the location (amazingly close to shopping, restaurants, and along the shore) and since I saw that the rooms are being refurbished (probably why they’ve slacked on cleaning?), I might stay again, but I sincerely hope more effort goes into ensuring basic cleaning and hygiene is kept up for guests.

Much better than last time. Staff friendly and efficient - got a friendly greeeting and quick check in. Got a very friendly check-out experience as well. Very nice room and it was large but perhaps a bit dated - the shower definitely was. Still limited by the number and sizeof their lifts but it wasn't a problem this time.

This hotel should be permanently closed for a complete refurbishment. The carpet is so old and in such poor condition throughout the entire hotel that it had duct tape holding areas together. The furniture in the public areas and the rooms is also extremely old and in such poor condition, that it should be put in a dumpster. It also appears that no areas have been painted in many years...peeling paint and dirty walls and trim every where. The shower in the room was not usable. The water was either ice cold or scalding hot and could not be adjusted. The fact that a standard room was $350 US dollars is shocking. DO NOT STAY HERE

I have stayed here a few times due to the location, staff and room. After checking in we started the celebrations of our wedding anniversary which was a special one by exploring the lovely sights and places of Brighton. When we came back to room at just after midnight we got into bed to find the bed was broken and duvet and bed sheets did not fit our bed - it was the worst night sleep and barely slept. As it was early hours we didn’t want to move rooms so late as we had unpacked. When morning came we thought we would use the tea and coffee facilities in the room before we went down to complain about the bed and check out. Sadly the coffee and sugar sachets were stuck together no doubt from getting damp or were just old. We explained everything to the gentleman behind the counter and shared photos of the bed being broken and sheets not fitting our bed. I have never experienced rudeness like it, he shrugged his shoulders and asked what I want him to do about it! Even complaining through hotel.com they said the hotel apologised for the poor experience and didn’t have a voucher or a partial refund to offer us. Due to this experience we will not be returning despite the experiences we had previously that were good, the hotel clearly needs some TLC and will not be returning.
