More about hotels in Bedugul
Bedugul is in Bali's central highlands, with a cooler setting than the southern coast and accommodation around Lake Beratan and the surrounding villages. Pack a layer for mornings and evenings, and review the forecast for your dates.
Most travellers treat Bedugul as a half or full-day trip from South Bali, but a night or two up here lets you catch the lake at sunrise before the tour buses arrive. There's a stay to match either pace, from lakeside cabins to a historic golf resort.
How do you get to Bedugul?
Arrange road transport to the exact property from your actual starting point. Ask for a current journey estimate and confirm the final approach, particularly if the selected accommodation uses a separate arrival arrangement.
What is Bedugul known for?
Lake Beratan and Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. The lake's multi-tiered, thatched-roof shrines sit right at the water's edge and are reflected in the lake on a calm morning. It's one of Bali's most photographed spots and appears on the back of Indonesia's 50,000 rupiah banknote. You can also paddle out onto the lake by pedal boat, traditional jukung canoe, or motorboat.
Bali Botanic Garden (Eka Karya). Indonesia's largest botanical garden covers around 157 hectares next to the lake, with an orchid collection of over 300 varieties, a rose garden, a cactus house, and shaded forest trails that are a good couple of degrees cooler again than the road outside.
Handara Gate. The split traditional gate marking the entrance to Handara Golf & Resort Bali has become one of the island's most recognisable photo spots, framed by clove trees and misty hills behind it.
Strawberries and the local market. The volcanic soil and cool air make Bedugul one of Bali's main strawberry-growing areas, and roadside farms around Candikuning let you pick your own by the kilo. The Candikuning market itself is worth a walk through for fresh produce, cut flowers, and local snacks, most of it grown right there in the hills.
Where to stay: Candikuning vs Wanagiri
Candikuning provides a lake-area base around Beratan. Wanagiri is a separate highland setting toward the Buyan and Tamblingan lakes. Compare the address and arrival route before treating a broad Bedugul search as one compact walking area.

Tips for visiting Bedugul
- Go early. Plan the lake visit around current opening arrangements, weather and the time you want there.
- Pack a light jacket or jumper. Bedugul's highland air is a genuine temperature drop from the coast, especially early morning and after dark.
- Arrange a confirmed transfer to the property entrance and plan onward journeys separately.
- If a lakeside setting matters, book a room directly on the water (Rusa By The Lake or Sanctua Resort Bedugul) rather than staying further out and driving in for the day.
- Combine Bedugul with a stop at Handara Gate and the botanical garden. They're a few minutes apart by car, so it's easy to see all three in one loop without backtracking.
