Everything was excellent, from caring staff, property condition and food. Please note that there is no lift, but they take your bags up and down (2-4 floors). Free coffee/tea in their cafe/bar. Onsen was also very good. Room was spacious and we were allowed an early check-in. Highly recommended if you are visiting Chuzengi. Take care driving up the winding road during winter.

Wonderful place to stay in the Nikko area. This is a small hotel of 15 rooms overlooking lake Chuzenji. You either make a bus from Nikko station or a have a car to drive up the mountain. There are lots of walks to do in this area and the Kegon waterfall is very impressive. The rooms are spacious and was in the western style. The staff were incredibly friendly and nothing was a hassle. We had breakfast and dinner included which I would recommend. The breakfast had a variety of both western and eastern dishes. The dinners were in the kaiseki style and were fabulous. With beautiful fresh ingredients. They also inquire as to any food allergies and cater the meal to that. Could not ask for a better place to stay.

This felt like a family-owned inn (not sure if it is) and the staff were absolutely wonderful. We did the included breakfast and dinner, and the dinners were among the best meals we had during our entire 12-day trip in Japan! This is an older hotel, but you are paying for the location -- absolutely gorgeous on Lake Chuzenji! Okunikko is tiny and I'd recommend doing dinner at the hotel since much of the little town closes in the evenings, once the day trippers head out. I would recommend this hotel to people who like an inn/bed and breakfast sort of smaller establishment. It was a bit outdated, but that didn't bother us.

If you’re looking for a traditional experience, the dinner will be something you’ll always remember. The breakfast buffet is also a lovely mix of Japanese and western options. All this and a just across the street is the lake. If you want to get away from the hustle, it’s the perfect place to reset after a day of sightseeing.

We loved our stay at Hatago Nagomi. First, the staff is amazing. Everyone is helpful, from getting situated, advice on transportation, cleaning, dinner and breakfast service, across the board excellent! And not just one or two people, everyone. The room was a great size and the balcony looking over Lake Chuzenji was beautiful. The view is where it’s at. The rooms have comfortable beds and are very clean. Other than that, fairly basic. But most importantly, comfortable. The hotel has its own gender segregated onsen. The onsen is small, but a great way to relax each evening. They provide all of the clothing, towels, and bathroom supplies you will need each day. Breakfast is good and will definitely fuel your day. But dinner is phenomenal! They are multi-course and will definitely fill you up. My favorite was the Shaba Shabu meal on night three. This hotel is not sparkling and new. However, it has many updates, friendly, very clean, you can do laundry, great food, and gorgeous surroundings.
