My son and I visited Japan in February/March 2025 and stayed in hotels in four cities. Not only was the Hotel Okura Kyoto our favorite hotel in Japan, but it is now one of my favorite hotels worldwide.
First, the rooms are impeccably clean and have every imaginable amenity. There is a fantastic amount of storage, and rooms are very quiet. We tried both breakfast restaurants, and loved the extensive western and Japanese options.The location was very useful, and walkable to the main shopping street while in a quieter spot.
However, the staff were by far the most wonderful part of our stay. We had some difficulty in Kyoto figuring out transportation options, logistics, and finding things we need - the staff helped us each time with very personalized issues. They also arranged a much better car rental agreement for us when our plans changed. They were even able to help us find the nearest pet store selling rabbit food - every request was met with warmth, kindness and assistance.
