More about hotels in Nīca
Nīca is a small coastal village in Latvia's Kurzeme region, about 20 kilometres south of Liepāja and a short walk from the Baltic Sea. It trades big-city bustle for pine forest, wide sandy dunes and one of the best birdwatching stretches on the whole Baltic coast. Every spring, the open fields around Nīca are the first landing point in Latvia for thousands of migrating swans, geese and waders, and nearby Pape Nature Park adds hundreds more species to the list.
The village itself sits between farmland and the Bārta River, where slow boat tours drift past reed beds on their way to the coast. Just along the shore is Pūsēnu kalns, the tallest sand dune in the country, so even a short walk on the beach here comes with a proper view.
There's a small but genuinely characterful spread of stays here, from beachside villas with their own hot tub to renovated guesthouses tucked into the pines. It suits travellers after a slow, low-key Baltic break rather than a resort strip.
Where to stay in Nīca
- Nīca village - the parish's own hub, a handful of guesthouses and homes set back from the coast, handy if you want easy access to the birdwatching fields.
- Bernāti - a proper beach hamlet on the coast, known for dune-backed sand and a big stretch of protected pine forest running right up to the shore.
- Pērkone - just up the coast, home to a renovated century-old building turned boutique hotel, a five-minute walk from an untouched stretch of Baltic beach.
- Otaņķi - the quieter neighbouring parish, more forest and farmland than coastline, a good pick if you want peace and don't mind a short drive to the beach.

Tips for finding the perfect accommodation in Nīca
- Book ahead for spring (March to June) and clear autumn weekends. That's peak birdwatching season, and Nīca's small room count sells out fast for exactly those dates.
- If a stay shows as sold out for your dates, try shifting by a few days. With only a handful of properties in the whole village, availability moves around a lot.
- Match the stay to the vibe. Pērkone and Bernāti put you right by the sand, while Nīca village and Otaņķi suit travellers happy to drive a few minutes to reach the beach.
- Pack for the coast. Even in summer the Baltic Sea breeze has a real bite, so bring a jacket even on a sunny day.
- Filter for a hot tub or sauna if you're travelling outside summer. Several of the local stays lean into that as their main drawcard.
- Renting a car makes life easier. Nīca's stays are spread across a few small hamlets rather than one walkable centre, and a car gets you between the beach, the dunes and the birdwatching fields without relying on local buses.
If Nīca's small selection doesn't quite fit your dates, Liepāja is only around 20 minutes up the coast and has a much bigger spread of hotels to choose from.
