Alona Beach, Panglao Island
Alona Beach is Bohol's best-known beach and dive base, on Panglao Island just south-west of Tagbilaran. It pairs a lively strip of beachfront bars and restaurants with some of the central Philippines' most accessible diving and snorkelling — the main reason most travellers choose it over Bohol's quieter beaches.

Alona's white sand and clear water are the draw by day, and its beachfront bars and restaurants by night. It's also Bohol's dive hub, with several PADI dive resorts and dive shops running day trips to the marine sanctuaries at Balicasag and Pamilacan Islands — both known for turtles, reef walls and, in season, dolphin- and whale-shark-watching trips.
Getting there
Bohol-Panglao International Airport is around 20-25 minutes by car from Alona Beach — there are direct flights from Manila and Cebu, but no direct flight from Australia, so connect via one of those two cities. Alona Beach also makes a convenient base for day trips to Bohol's Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary, both roughly an hour's drive away.
