The property was beautiful and the men who work there were unbelievably helpful. I arrived hours before my check-in time because of my flight and only had to pay a very small fee for early check-in. The room was gorgeous and very clean. There was an informational welcome packet as well as a booklet with things to do in the area.

I wanted to share how pleased we are with our stays at the Royal Marine Hotel. This was our fourth visit, Jackie and I are returning again this weekend and once more next month, which speaks for itself. The location is perfect for us. We can park the car and head out for the day without any hassle. The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and the rooms we have been allocated have been excellent on every visit. We have thoroughly enjoyed each stay and look forward to returning again.

The hotel is certainly a representative of a time past. We couldn’t get the shower to work and since we were two sisters traveling together we really missed that shower. The view from the front steps out to the lock was awesome. The ferry was literally across the road and since we needed to take an early departure the location was perfect.

It was an interesting place to stay. It’s a listed property that is being renovated as allowed. We had a good sized bedroom but with noisy floors in the bathroom as well not too keen on electric showers but eventually got water at the right temp. Breakfast started off being a challenge as there was nothing we wanted but we had a conversation and someone went shopping so all was well for the three days we were there. The hotel must have been a really grand building as a lot of the original features exist still . The dining room has recently been decorated and is a very pleasant place to be. We only ate there once and the food was enjoyable. Parking available on site and across the road the ferry to Gurock so very convenient. Close to Benmore botanic garden which is great and about 50 mins from the castle of the Dukes of Argyll well with visits

Fantastic stay, the hotel has been having work done to it but that made no difference at all to my stay. Cleaning staff deserve credit for the amazing job they are doing it is NOT easy at all! Very very friendly. Management were very attentive and had a good chat and a laugh which I find very important. Breakfast was absolutely amazing would have liked fruit and yoghurt option with few pastries but what you get for breakfast is absolutely amazing & value for money. Parking is easy enough, also plenty of shops in the town. Only downside for myself and partner is there are loads of stairs, we are both asthmatic, COPD and my partner has had stents in recently an suffers arthritis & angina, I know probably can't put lifts in as it's an old building but maybe offer second floor for people with medical issues? Over all dispite that it was absolutely amazing and I definitely recommend staying there

Do not book this hotel! We paid in advance to stay for 3 nights in May. On the first night we discovered that there was no running water or flushing toilet in our bathroom. Our room was in the lodge annex building. We had a very uncomfortable night. The Hotel would not move us to another room because that said they were fully booked. We had no choice but to leave after just one night. We were promised a refund for the remaining 2 nights but they have not paid. It's now the middle of June and we are still waiting for our refund. The hotel no longer answers calls or emails. Buyer beware! Do not pay in advance to stay here. The whole place is shabby and rundown. Obviously run on a shoestring. I can't say it loudly enough, DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!

Nice, pet-friendly hotel. Jessie was very friendly and helpful and so the other staff. Big rooms and spacious bathroom with big shower. The mattress could be changed and need some 2-in-1 coffee sachets or some milk tubs, but besides everything was good. We had dinner and breakfast and it was all tasty. Hotel is a listed building so there's only so much they can do about it, but it was good for its price.

Stayed for couple of nights in rm 19 which was modernised and had a Bluetooth mirror in the bathroom which made my day. Bed was comfy, room was clean, large tv for whoever is interested in this, kettle, plenty coffee and tea. Roo. Was quiet, location just across from the ferry, the building itself was stunning. Electric heaters in the room and you can adjust the temperature and a fan for cooling down. I haven't used the bar or restaurant. I have asked if they served meals and been told 'is one of those things', I like clear answers, so I decided to eat out. I have travelled there for work, beautiful scenery, but Dunoon in itself it's not a place I would return. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, can't fault a single thing, the price was convenient for what they provided. Took one star of as 'it's one of those things' answer. They could clearly be more organised on the meals side.

I had a lovely stay although not a front facing room unfortunately but a peaceful wooded view. Enthusiastic staff eager to renovate and get the hotel back up to scratch but a quirky and charming place, full of authenticity and character. Definitely not a 5* luxury hotel but could not fault the facilities, comfort, and great value for money. Ample parking, green spaces with lovely view, beautiful bed linen & supersoft towels and great shower!

Had a very pleasant overnight stay. Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water and good shower pressure. This is an old building so it can't be compared with a modern structure, but it has plenty of charm. Very helpful staff. Didn't have breakfast, so can't comment. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel and grounds are rather run down but trying. Bathroom in particular had seen better days. Room was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Our room name was Skye. The view was amazing and it was great watching Ferries come and go. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on food. Is a good 1/2 hour walk into town. However there is a bus stop almost opposite and a local taxi firm. One thing that really needs addressing is the Hotels front door. Our room was directly above it and it slams shut. It was really annoying. You’d just be dropping off and it would go BAM. They really need to fit a soft close hinge. Didn’t get the chance to raise directly with staff as everyone was busy when we left. If you’re after a reasonably priced room with great views and don’t mind a bit of shabby it’s fine.
