We loved our stay. We felt very welcome and the staff were fantastic! Such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We even met the cleaner on the stairs who stopped to ask if we needed anything wven though she was already really busy. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel both days and the food was delicious and very well cooked. We plan to return in the summer. This was our 2nd time in Dunoon but first at the marine hotel, we will definitely stay here next time. Perfect location for the ferry as its literally on the doorstep. Ample parking.

I stayed in Gigha, it was an excellent room with a wooden four poster bed and large window, I could watch the car ferry loading and taking off.

A standout stay at a characterful hotel in a great location. The Royal Marine Hotel perfectly balances traditional charm with tasteful modern touches, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout. What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality. Richard, the owner, leads a first-class team who clearly take pride in what they do. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was genuine and personable, and that level of care remained consistent right through to our departure. The on-site bar is both cosy and well-stocked, and the food deserves special mention. The menu focuses on high-quality, home-cooked dishes done exceptionally well. The handmade burger was a highlight—easily one of the best I’ve had—and it convinced us to stay for breakfast the following morning, which was equally impressive. In terms of value, service, and overall experience, The Royal Marine Hotel delivers on every level. It’s the kind of place you look forward to returning to—and we certainly will be. Highly recommended.

Parking outside. We wanted an early check in which caused a bit of confusion. Hotel sorted out something for us and on our return late at night our bags were in our room. We had a quiet room . Location very good as near Western Ferries. Town is walkable but also a bus service near.

Perfect location to hop on/off the Hunters Quay ferry and an easy ride into Dunoon on quiet roads or a shared path. The room was large and well furnished and everything worked as it should. I’d booked two nights to stay but booked them separately as my plans had changed. The staff were happy to make sure I kept the same room for the second night. Was able to keep my bike safely locked up outside the front entrance too so that’s a bonus.

The staff on reception was cold and unhelpful, didn't even show me to the room. The room was absolutely disgusting. There was a drawer full of very dirty socks that didn't belong to me. The floorboards were rotten. The carpet didn't fit the room and wasn't attached. The toilet didn't flush properly and when it did flush it made the room smell like poo so presumably there's a sewage leak under the floor. The shower didn't give hot water. The walls were mucky. There were marks on the walls and television screen that looked like fist impressions from a violent prior resident. All the electrical outlets were smashed up so there were exposed live wires throughout the room. The radiator didn't work. The door was broken and barely locked. There was a large spider living in the bath. The bathroom was unclean. The hotel boasts having a 24hr reception desk but the reception was always closed and the hotel unstaffed. The breakfast was just little boxes of cereal with fruit, and I didn't eat it given how disgusting the place was. Worst hotel I've ever seen.

My wife and I had a decent stay at the Royal Marine, though it was a bit of a mixed bag. The building looks magnificent, and although a little tired, has fantastic potential with some TLC. Our room was spotless, and we enjoyed paying extra for the sea view; watching the ferry terminal activity was actually quite relaxing. However, the hotel is feeling a little run-down and in need of some modernising. We also found the breakfast disappointing, which let the experience down. Whilst we enjoyed our visit to Dunoon, I doubt we'll be rushing back anytime soon.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The entire place felt very dated and had a musty, unpleasant smell throughout. The cleanliness of the room was unacceptable. The bedding was poor quality, with worn pillowcases and visible dirty marks (as shown in my photos). This is simply not an acceptable standard for any hotel. The floors were also dirty, with bits of debris everywhere — I felt I had to keep my shoes on at all times. There were also visible cobwebs around the bed area, which only added to the feeling that the room had not been properly cleaned. Facilities were very limited. There was nowhere to get a hot or cold drink, and the bar was closed, which was inconvenient and disappointing. Overall, the decor was very dark and uninviting, and the lack of cleanliness and basic facilities made for a very poor experience. I would not recommend staying here unless significant improvements are made

This was advertised as 3.75 miles from where I needed to be and after payment showed where it actually is! 3.75 miles across the water and a 4.5 hour road trip! Hotels.com declined to refund me. No doubt the hotel is lovely but the location description from hotels.com is atrocious.

Hi. Good location for the ferry. Thought id booked breakfast in with my stay to be told i had to pay for it. No paperwork on checkin so nice n easy. Really old hotel, my room was the attic, cold n wied smell. Heater provided but i couldnt work out how to use it but only there 1 night n bed fabulously comfy so very cold when out of bed. Didnt want to complain for only 1 night but im 100% sure the manager would have sorted it out, he was really nice n so were his staff. Great position to see Holy Loch n ferry across the water is very frequent n just outside Dunoon so all in all a great home from home as im just 1.5 hours away but think a cars best to see around n about Dunoon yo appreciate the scenery n landscape n parking at the hotel was fine. Will take a hell of a lot of money to bring the hotel to modern standards decor wise. Might be back 1 day but Thank u for your care and attention whilst i stayed overnight
