More about hotels in Adıyaman
Adıyaman is best known for one thing rising above everything else, quite literally. On the summit of Mount Nemrut, five giant stone heads sit at ground level, fallen long ago from statues that once stood far taller on twin ceremonial terraces. The whole site is a UNESCO World Heritage sanctuary, built as a tomb-and-temple complex for a first-century BC king of the ancient Commagene kingdom, and watching sunrise break over the stone faces from the Eastern Taurus mountains is one of the most talked-about experiences in Turkey.
Most visitors base themselves in Adıyaman city and head out to Nemrut, the rock-tomb site of Perre, or the lake country beyond, so there's a real spread of places to stay to match. You'll find simple motels near the bus terminal right through to an international hotel brand with a fitness centre and city views, and it helps to know the lay of the land before you book.
Where to stay in Adıyaman
- Merkez (city centre) - the obvious base for restaurants, the Adıyaman Museum, and quick road access to everywhere else. Most of the region's mid-range and business hotels sit here.
- Kâhta - the small town everyone passes through on the way up to Mount Nemrut, about 90 minutes from the city centre. Staying here cuts a big chunk off the pre-dawn drive if you're doing the sunrise trip.
- Gölbaşı - a quieter district built around a pair of crater lakes, good if you want a slower pace and some scenery with your morning coffee.
- Besni - vineyard country west of the city, home to the Besni grape, a geographically protected variety grown across the district, and a handy stop if you're driving in from the Gaziantep or Şanlıurfa direction.

Tips for finding the perfect accommodation in Adıyaman
- If Mount Nemrut sunrise is the main reason for the trip, book a night in Kâhta rather than the city centre. It turns a 3am alarm and a 90-minute drive into a much shorter one.
- Prices tick up a little through the warmer months, roughly May to October, which is also when the mountain road is snow-free and open. Book ahead if you're travelling in that window.
- Ask about airport transfers when you book. Several hotels around Kâhta run their own shuttle to and from Adıyaman Airport, which saves arranging a taxi for what's a fairly long drive.
- Want a lake view over a city view? Look at stays around Gölbaşı rather than Merkez. It's a quieter base and still an easy drive back into town.
- Pack a warm layer even in summer if you're doing the sunrise trip. The summit sits over 2,000 metres up, and it's genuinely cold before the sun clears the ridge, whatever the forecast says for the city below.
Adıyaman also makes a good stop on a longer loop through south-eastern Turkey. Check Traveloka's full range of Turkey stays if you're planning the rest of the route.
