JR Shikoku History

JR Shikoku or Shikoku Railway Company is officially named Shikoku Ryokaku Tetsudo Kabushiki-gaisha. This is a railway company under the management of the Japan Railway Group (JR Group). This subsidiary of the JR Group primarily serves cross-city train travel, in four prefectures centered on Shikoku Island, Japan.

Headquartered in Takamatsu, Kagawa-Japan, JR Shikoku was born from the privatization of Japan National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987. In the separation of government companies, the JR Group assigned JR Shikoku to control trains, buses, hotels, and car rental operations in the Island region Shikoku

In 1989, JR Shikoku was noted to develop and introduce the 2000 DMU Limited Express Series train. The train is the first train to use several diesel engines with a natural pendulum swinging. This technology allows the train to go faster on the winding lane. Three years later, JR Shikoku introduced the 8000 Series with a maximum speed of 130 km / h, followed by the new 2000DMU Series in 1998 which was equipped with a diesel engine with more power.
