Disappointing and Seriously Overrated – The Sea View Was the Only Highlight
I honestly expected much more from Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu, but the experience fell well short of what I would expect from a hotel carrying the Dusit Thani name.
The property is huge, but unfortunately, size does not translate into quality. Much of the hotel feels dated and tired, with numerous amenities, furnishings, and public areas showing their age. It looks like a property that has not received the level of refurbishment needed to maintain a premium resort positioning.
The sea view from my room was beautiful — but that was about where the positives ended. More concerning was the repeated power interruption during my stay. The hotel experienced multiple blackouts in a single day, albeit for only around 30 seconds each time. Short or not, having the electricity repeatedly cut out is hardly reassuring when staying at a supposedly upscale resort.
Wi-Fi connection was also unstable, with connectivity dropping intermittently. In today's environment, reliable Wi-Fi should be a basic expectation, particularly for a hotel positioned in the premium segment. Combined with the repeated power interruptions, it made the overall experience even more frustrating.
The food was equally underwhelming. The breakfast buffet was expensive but far from impressive, with a spread that was neither particularly appetizing nor memorable. For the price and the hotel's positioning, I expected considerably better quality and presentation.
Overall, this felt like a large resort trading heavily on its location and sea views rather than delivering a genuinely premium experience. The property has the potential to be excellent, but it needs a serious refresh — not just cosmetically, but in terms of facilities, dining quality, connectivity, and overall guest experience.
For a property of this size and positioning, I expected considerably more. I would think twice before returning.
