Shirakawa-go (Shirakawa Village, 白川郷)
Shirakawa-go's Ogimachi (荻町) district is well-known for its Gassho-zukuri (合掌造り). Villages with unique landscapes such as Shirakawa-go and Gokayama (五箇山) were registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1995. Shirakawa-go is located in Gifu County's northwest, at the foot of Hakusan Mountain (). It is a quiet mountain village surrounded by rice fields, rivers, and a group of more than 110 "Gassho-zukuri'' (houses built of wooden beams combined to form a steep thatched roof that resembles two hands together). Many people know Hida Takayama because of the animated movie "Your Name (君の名は)". Visit the famous three historical streets, which are fun to explore to find local delicacies and try 5A beef sushi. The entire region is owned by Matsumoto City and is part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park (中部山岳国立公園), which is a national cultural property. Take a dip in the surrounding hot springs, or try climbing Mt. Hotaka (穂高岳) and Mt. Yarigatake (槍ヶ岳).
