Holidays are coming, so where should we go? A question without answer because you just want to get away from this busy life. But in this situation, traveling abroad might not be a good option, so we would rather travel within Thailand. In this article, we will take you to Trat, a minor city in the most eastern part, next to the gulf of Thailand. It takes about 4 hours driving but we want to save our time so we choose to fly instead! Take a cheap flight and only 1 hour to reach Trat Airport.
So, let’s waste no time and book a flight to Trat with Traveloka. The application that fulfills every need for tourists. You will reach the destination and make the worthwhile flight with a function called ‘Price Alerts’. Perfect for those that want to find the cheapest ticket and get the cheap flight. It will compare the price and notify you through your mobile phone. It’s really easy as it sounds – let’s set the function and get the best price available!
We have found that there’s not many public transportation choices here in Trat, therefore we choose to book a rental car for the easiest way. Of course, we booked a car with Traveloka again and the process is simple too. Just go to the application or website, pick the date, time, destination and a type of car that we want, fill your information – and you’re all set! Then when you land in Trat, just get your pre-booked car and start your trip!
After travelling from Bangkok and reach Trat safe and sound, we headed to the first spot. ‘Yotha Nimit Temple’ (Wat Bot) is a buddhist attraction that has been built by King Taksin, hundreds of years ago.
It has been a significant temple and place for other Kings since. With interesting monuments and historical paintings and relics
We walked and viewed the beauty of the architecture that has been crafted and got to learn some of Thailand's histories.
After visiting the temple and getting the blessings, we moved to our real destination which is ‘Chang Island’ , a famous island that welcomes travellers all over the world. We crossed the ocean to the island by a big ferry, so we could still drive around the island with our own car.
We first headed to the hotel and unpacked. Now it’s almost evening so we decided to walk along the beach and found a restaurant for our delicious dinner.
Not only you will find many restaurants, there are lots of bars with amazing fire performances with batons. With the show from a professional, the fire lit through the dark night – it is a real talented show! We had good food while sipping alcohol drinks, enjoying the show and having a good time.
Start the beautiful day with beautiful weather in Chang Island. Clear Sky, white sand, blue water – here we go! We booked a diving trip for a whole day with 3 islands. All the landmark islands that we couldn’t miss.
We hurried and finished our breakfast from our hotel and boarded the speedboat and went to the first islands ‘Yakyai Island’ and ‘Yakleg Island’. We stopped and dived under the water to meet a variety of colourful coral reefs.
Just snorkelling was enough to see the plentiful marine life. Spotted all the small fish swimming cheerfully from one coral to another. What a lively place under the sea. We swam from Yakyai to Yaklek island which is located next to each other and was also full of coral reefs and sea anemones.
After visiting two islands, we hopped on the speedboat and went to the next one, ‘Rang Islands’. The small islands with amazing beaches as a highlight. You can visit and are allowed to stay a night here too. We were relaxing on the beach and diving without getting tired – what an experience!
Then it was time for lunch and it had to be seafood, of course! We chose ‘Iyara Seafood’ restaurant, one of the best seafood dishes located next to the sea. Experiencing serene moments while eating fresh and delicious seafood – ingredients came directly from the sea!

When the night came, we found a trip that will take us to see fireflies too! So, we boarded the wooden boat and slowly cruising down the river and spotted the fireflies around the trees – truly a rare sight for us.
The time has come and now it’s the last day of our trip. We went back to the mainland by a ferry and were ready to explore Trat city. First place of today’s trip is ‘Trat City Pillar Shrine’. The most important shrine of the city that binds Thai-Chinese descent people and families together.
The shrine’s architecture is obviously Chinese style, with holy statues situated for locals to come and pay respect. We spotted beautiful and colourful paintings all over the buildings.
Usually lots of locals and people have been visiting the shrine – especially at a festival. Prayed and respected the shrine for good luck and blessing and we moved next to the café in the city.
Before we travelled back to Bangkok, we stopped at café ‘Keen Coffee’ a small café decorated with plants and trees. It offers a good cup of coffee and refreshing juices with real fruits – great selections and reasonable price (45-70 thb), perfect with our budget trip.
We chilled for a bit before going to the airport, drank delicious beverages and relaxed with greenish scenery.
