The airport is in East Jakarta, about 12 kilometres from the city centre.
Batik Air is the largest airline at Halim, followed by Citilink. A few smaller operators also serve the airport.
Scheduled passenger flights at Halim are domestic. International flights from Jakarta usually leave from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport.
Halim (HLP) is a smaller airport in East Jakarta, closer to the centre. Soekarno–Hatta (CGK) is Jakarta's main airport in Tangerang, handling most domestic and all major international flights.
Yes. A shuttle connects the airport with Halim station, the Jakarta terminus of the Whoosh high-speed rail line to Bandung.
Yes. It is a major Indonesian Air Force base as well as a civilian airport, and it handles state and VIP flights.
Routes connect Jakarta with domestic cities such as Surabaya, Denpasar, Padang and Pekanbaru.
Taxis and ride-hailing cars are available, and you can reach the LRT Jabodebek at Halim station via the airport shuttle.
Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport (HLP) is Jakarta's second commercial airport, after Soekarno–Hatta. It began life in the 1920s as Tjililitan airfield and was later renamed after Halim Perdanakusuma, an Indonesian Air Force officer and national hero. Today it combines civilian flights with its role as a major Indonesian Air Force base, and it is also used for state and VIP flights.
Halim is in East Jakarta, near the border with Bekasi, about 12 kilometres from the city centre. That makes it much closer to many parts of Jakarta than Soekarno–Hatta, which sits to the west in Tangerang.
A major renovation expanded the passenger terminal and raised its capacity to several million passengers a year. The single terminal is compact and easy to navigate, with check-in halls, departure lounges, food outlets and prayer rooms.
Batik Air is the largest operator at Halim, with Citilink the other main carrier. Together they link Jakarta with domestic cities such as Surabaya, Denpasar, Padang and Pekanbaru. Some smaller operators also fly from the airport. Flights here are domestic, so international trips from Jakarta generally depart from Soekarno–Hatta.
Halim is well connected by rail as well as road. Handy options include:
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a large park showcasing the culture and architecture of Indonesia's provinces, is close to the airport. Central Jakarta's National Monument (Monas), the Istiqlal Mosque and the old town of Kota Tua are all reachable by road or rail.
Always check which Jakarta airport your ticket uses, as HLP and CGK are far apart. If you are continuing to Bandung, the high-speed train from Halim station makes an easy onward connection.
