I booked Barclay on View to stay after a concert at Ulumbarra Theatre. It was a great location with about 600m walk to theatre. Felt safe to walk at night on my own.
Barclay on View is an older building but very well maintained.
I arrived on a 42° day and the staff had thoughtfully left the air conditioning on, so I went into a cooled room. Thankyou.
Very close to art gallery, funky shops, cafes, pubs , Bendigo Visitors Information and the botanic gardens. A longer walk to the supermarket.
Faith Leech Aquatic Centre pool complex, and sporting fields are over the road. Lots of open space close by for active kids to burn off energy. There's aso a huge play activity section in the botanic gardens.
The room was very clean and the bed was really comfortable. If you self cater, there's no microwave but there is a toaster.
I stayed 2 nights - the housekeeping staff checked whether I needed change of towels or extra tea making supplies.
I did have trouble with Google maps picking up View Street, so perhaps check directions when you arrive in Bendigo. (May the Maps app was struggling in the heat too.) The driveway entrance is just after reception.
Great value, a really enjoyable stay and I thoroughly recommend this property.

booked two rooms, one standard one exective for 2 nights. First problem was being refused access to room by aggressive workers relaying external carpet. Reception then had to ring the boss and came back and said if i access executive room i would be trapped in it for at least 45 minutes or i needed to come back later...this is an hour after check in time...at first no apology just the comment " I don't know you were even put in that room...all the others have been blocked off!" An hour and 17 minutes later i got a message i could enter along with apology...then discovered the codes sent were incorrect...this is all before entering the most disappointing of rooms: a dirty kettle, mysterious carpet stains, barely clean bathroom all accompanied by the waft of industrial strength glue everytime i opened my door or window. Nothing really executive about this tired old room with a few cushions and couple of new chairs to smarten it up...it even had contact on the top of the bathroom counter...at least my friends standard room was honest and virtually the same room as mine...the room had not been painted or anything in depth to classify it as 'executive'. Book the standard room and at least the expectation is lower.

Good place to lay your head for a night. Close to a couple of restaurants where you can walk to. The room was basic but clean. The bed was quite firm but better than being too soft. The shower was good with a good flow.

Location is great. Room was spacious enough.
Must say that the showers need updating though.
Ours leaked everywhere every shower and the shower screen seals made the door not even close.
After every shower their was water all through the bathroom.
