The house is in a beautiful location and we were greeted by Alfie. We were made welcome from the very beginning and looked after well. Our twin room was perfect with amazing views. We were recommended a walk to the lake and took a picnic, beautiful scenery and incredibly relaxing. A must do! We were provided with a delicious cooked breakfast and fresh bread. We will absolutely be visiting again and we wished we’d stayed longer than 1 night.

This is a delightful property with a lovely host. It isn’t anything flash but if you’re looking for quaint and original then this is perfect. It is an older house so has the creaky floor boards and matching decor. Bathroom is clean and newer. Slices were provided on arrival and a beautiful English breakfast included the next morning. Was able to go for walk down to the nearby lake and take in the surrounding beauty. Would be a great place to base yourself for exploring the lakes district further.

A very pleasant establishment just outside Keswick. Free parking and local bus stop. Room is in a really old terrace cottage full of character. The proprietor had a roaring fire going and she offered some homemade cafe to have with a brew. Breakfast was great - the eggs were fresh and provided by the hens in the garden. Can't wait to go back

A peaceful location, a welcoming and attentive host, beautiful surroundings, and great food. A nice escape from the noise of Keswick town centre. I had a very comfortable bedroom and the bathroom was everything I needed after a hard day running up the fells. It's nice to sit in the garden and watch the hens.

Wonderfully charming quaint b&b. Greeted on arrival by the very welcoming host who immediately set the fire away and brought me cake and biscuits, she was very helpful and informative regarding local walks. The property and grounds are superbly maintained and it was so peaceful watching the chickens roaming freely from my bedroom window and listening to the birds.

Powter Howe is a wonderful place to stay. So welcoming and homely for a B&B. A beautiful old house and garden, plenty of space, very peaceful, a lovely breakfast and open fire in the evening. Mrs Lockwood is an excellent host, and the other guests who stayed during my 9-night visit were very pleasant as well. There are lovely short walks nearby to the lake and in the woods, and only 10 minutes drive to Keswick. I hope to be back soon.

Very traditional 500 year old Tudor house. It’s beautiful. Has its quirks - sloping squeaky floors, uneven walls, nooks & crannies & so much history! The landlady is a fabulous baker, serving up all homemade mince pies, millionaires shortbread & a homemade bread as part of breakfast! She even makes her own jams & chutneys - I bought 2 to bring home. It’s like staying in a home from home. It’s warm, welcoming, cosy & so homely. Plenty of parking space outside, lots of wildlife roaming in the gardens & beautiful dogs in the house. Would absolutely stay again.
