Very satisfied!! Previously I had moved from hotel to hotel in Manado to find a comfortable one and the best choice fell on this Aston. Especially for the breakfast menu which is always varied, especially the live cooking is truly from Indo, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese food. Because usually in some hotels the food that is freshly cooked is at most omelettes or soto. Here the bread is also delicious. The fruit and salad are also delicious already placed, plus there is fresh juice that is not just a flavored drink with syrup. So far, this is the most comfortable and best hotel. In terms of rooms, they are also very comfortable, spacious for the superior room and super cool. So far I highly recommend this hotel and if I go to Manado I will stay here again and the room I stayed in was comfortable and my favorite, I will choose to be placed on the 7th floor again.

The hotel was really good, I was given a room that was upgraded to a deluxe room at no additional cost, the staff helped me check in an hour earlier than check-in time, and when I was about to check out, I was offered breakfast that could be taken to the airport even though check-out was at 3 am, and there was no deposit at all.

What to Eat and Where to Find It in Tikala

Tikala, as part of North Sulawesi, offers a culinary landscape rich with distinct Indonesian flavours, often characterized by bold spices and unique local ingredients. Beyond the universally popular Indonesian dishes, the region boasts specialties like Tinutuan, a hearty vegetable porridge often enjoyed for breakfast, and Ikan Woku, a flavourful fish dish cooked in a fragrant, spicy sauce. For travellers seeking authentic tastes, exploring these local delicacies provides a deeper connection to the region's culture and heritage, setting it apart from other Indonesian destinations.

For an authentic dining experience, exploring the local markets and street food stalls in areas like Tikala and Wenang is highly recommended. These vibrant hubs offer a direct glimpse into daily life and provide access to a wide array of affordable and delicious meals. For Muslim travellers, seeking out establishments that clearly display "Halal" certification is advisable, as many eateries in Indonesia adhere to Islamic dietary laws, ensuring a comfortable dining experience for those with specific religious requirements.

The cost of dining in Tikala offers excellent value for international visitors. Street food and local eateries typically range from USD 1 to USD 5 per meal, providing an incredibly budget-friendly option for travellers from India and Africa. Mid-range restaurants might charge between USD 5 to USD 15 per person, offering a more comfortable dining setting. Even upscale dining experiences are generally more affordable than in Western countries, with prices rarely exceeding USD 30-40 per person, making Tikala an attractive culinary destination.

Navigating dining etiquette in Tikala is straightforward for most international visitors. It's customary to eat with your right hand, especially in more traditional settings, though cutlery is widely available. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a small amount (around 5-10%) being customary. Meal times generally follow a pattern of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with many local warungs (small eateries) open throughout the day, offering a flexible approach to dining.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Tikala

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Tikala. Indonesians are generally polite and value harmony, so maintaining a calm demeanour is appreciated. When visiting religious sites, modest dress is essential, covering shoulders and knees. A common gesture of respect is to avoid pointing with your index finger; instead, use your thumb or an open hand. Being mindful of these nuances will greatly enhance your interactions with the local community and ensure a smoother travel experience.

When visiting landmarks like ROYAL BILLIARD or Kawasan Pergudangan Business 8, it's important to observe any posted rules regarding dress code or photography. While these are commercial areas, showing respect for local customs is always prudent. Generally, casual but neat attire is acceptable for most public spaces. Queuing culture is present, and patience is valued, especially in busy areas. Understanding these simple protocols ensures you blend in respectfully and avoid any unintentional faux pas.

Tikala is generally a safe destination for international travellers, but standard precautions should always be taken. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or during late-night travel. For transportation, using reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab is recommended, as they offer transparent pricing and driver details, providing a sense of security. Familiarizing yourself with basic Indonesian phrases can also be incredibly helpful for communication and navigating daily interactions.

In case of emergencies, the local police number is typically 110, and for medical assistance, 118. It is advisable to have the contact details for your country's embassy or consulate readily available; for instance, the US Embassy in Jakarta, the British Embassy in Jakarta, the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, and relevant consulates for Nigerian, Kenyan, and South African citizens. Ensuring you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen events is a crucial step for any international trip.

Getting to Tikala and Getting Around

Reaching Tikala involves flying into Manado's Sam Ratulangi International Airport (MDC), which serves as the primary gateway for North Sulawesi. For travellers from the United States, flights from major hubs like JFK or LAX typically involve at least one stopover in Asia or the Middle East, with total journey times often exceeding 20 hours. European travellers from London (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), or Amsterdam (AMS) will also face long-haul flights, usually with a stop in a major Asian hub, taking around 18-24 hours.

Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) can expect similar flight durations with one or two layovers. For travellers from Africa, such as Nairobi (NBO) or Lagos (LOS), flights will likely involve multiple connections and extended travel times, often exceeding 24 hours. Booking your flight well in advance is recommended to secure the best fares and routes.

Once you arrive at Sam Ratulangi International Airport (MDC), getting to Tikala and navigating the city is relatively straightforward. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Grab are readily available and offer a convenient way to reach your accommodation, with fares to the city centre typically ranging from USD 5 to USD 15, depending on your exact destination. Within Tikala and the surrounding districts, local public transport includes minivans (angkot) that follow set routes and are very affordable, though they can be crowded. For more flexibility, hiring a car with a driver or using ride-hailing apps for shorter trips is a practical option for exploring areas like Wenang, Sario, or venturing towards Malalayang.

The best time to visit Tikala generally aligns with the dry season, which typically runs from May to September. During these months, you can expect sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the region's natural beauty, including potential trips to Bunaken. While hotel prices might see a slight increase during peak season, they remain considerably affordable compared to many other international destinations. The shoulder months of April and October can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds, providing a more relaxed travel experience.

Before departing for Tikala, a few pre-travel preparations will ensure a smooth journey. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), but USD is widely accepted in tourist-oriented establishments, though exchanging some currency for smaller purchases is advisable. You can purchase local SIM cards at the airport for affordable data access. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, Google Translate for communication, and ride-hailing apps like Grab. While Indonesia has a visa-free policy for many nationalities for short stays, always confirm your specific entry requirements before booking your flight. Visa Information

For travellers planning to visit Tikala, understanding the visa requirements for entering Indonesia is crucial. Citizens of the United States and most European countries (including the UK, Germany, and France) are typically eligible for visa-free entry for short stays, usually up to 30 days, allowing them to explore Tikala and other parts of Indonesia without prior visa application.

Indian passport holders generally fall under a similar category, often qualifying for visa-free entry or a visa on arrival for tourism purposes, though it's essential to verify the exact duration and conditions. For travellers from African nations such as Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, visa policies can vary; many may require a visa obtained in advance from an Indonesian embassy or consulate, or they might be eligible for a visa on arrival, with specific durations and requirements needing careful confirmation.

The process for obtaining a visa, if required, or for utilizing visa-on-arrival facilities, generally involves presenting a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity. For visa-free entry, proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, is often a requirement. Visa-on-arrival typically involves a fee, payable in USD, and a designated length of stay that can sometimes be extended. Specific documentation, such as a completed arrival card and potentially proof of sufficient funds, may be requested by immigration officials. It is always recommended to check the latest requirements with the Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration or the nearest Indonesian embassy.

Given that immigration policies can be subject to change, it is highly advisable for all international travellers to verify the most current visa regulations for their specific nationality well before their planned travel dates. Confirming your entry status and any associated fees or documentation requirements directly with the official Indonesian immigration authorities or the Indonesian embassy in your home country will prevent any last-minute issues upon arrival. This proactive approach ensures a smooth entry into Indonesia and a stress-free start to your exploration of Tikala.
