If you're looking for a kid-friendly hotel in the city, this one is great. The rooms are spacious, and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor play areas for kids. The food is delicious. I had a leaking AC, but the staff quickly fixed it. My kids were very happy staying here.

This hotel is very comfortable, especially the restaurant on the 1st floor. Kwetiau sapi my god, is the best kwetiau I ever had. So good. I've compared it with the one in front of the food court. The one at the hotel restaurant is still better. I come back again and again because the food is delicious at this hotel. The room is super good, the bathroom is super clean, the AC is cold. With that price, it's so cheap but you get a luxury room. Can't find another place like D'Coin. Is my honest testimony. Try it and I think you will think the same as me. Thanks.

More about hotels in Warakas

Tanjung Priok: A Gateway to Jakarta's Dynamic North

Tanjung Priok, situated in the bustling northern reaches of Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, offers a unique entry point for international travellers seeking an authentic urban experience. Unlike the more manicured tourist hubs, Tanjung Priok presents a raw, energetic slice of Indonesian life, deeply intertwined with the nation's maritime heritage and burgeoning industrial landscape. Its appeal lies in its unvarnished authenticity, providing a stark contrast to the typical tourist trail and offering a genuine glimpse into the daily rhythms of a working port city. For those looking to understand the pulse of Jakarta beyond its well-trodden paths, Tanjung Priok provides an invaluable perspective.

The region's character is not monolithic; it unfolds across distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own flavour and appeal. From the more established commercial zones like Sunter, known for its blend of residential and business activity, to the historically significant port areas and the developing residential pockets of Warakas and Kebon Bawang, Tanjung Priok offers a varied urban tapestry. Understanding these differences is key to crafting a fulfilling visit, as the choice of where to base oneself can significantly shape the overall travel experience, influencing access to amenities, local culture, and transportation networks.

For the budget-conscious traveller, Tanjung Priok emerges as a remarkably accessible destination. With average hotel prices starting as low as USD 9.19 per night and a general review score of 8.4 based on 21 reviews, it presents a compelling value proposition. This affordability is particularly attractive to travellers from markets like India and many African nations, where maximizing travel budgets is a priority. Even for visitors from the United States and Europe, accustomed to higher price points, Tanjung Priok offers a chance to experience a vibrant urban environment without the premium costs often associated with capital city exploration.

The accommodation landscape in Tanjung Priok reflects this accessibility, with options ranging from basic yet functional lodgings to more developed hotels. Behomy Yume Residence, for instance, exemplifies the more economical end of the spectrum, offering essential amenities for travellers prioritizing cost savings. This diversity ensures that visitors can find suitable accommodation that aligns with their financial plans, allowing them to allocate more resources to exploring the region's attractions and culinary offerings. For those ready to explore these options, it's easy to book hotel stays that fit their needs.

Ultimately, Tanjung Priok caters to a diverse array of international travellers. US visitors seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure will find its gritty charm and industrial backdrop intriguing. European travellers interested in cultural immersion and understanding Indonesia's economic backbone will appreciate its working port and local life. Indian families and solo travellers can leverage the excellent value for money and proximity to Jakarta's wider attractions. Meanwhile, travellers from African nations may find its connectivity and urban energy resonate, offering a familiar yet distinct metropolitan experience within Southeast Asia.

Best Areas to Stay in Tanjung Priok

Tanjung Priok, while a distinct region within Jakarta, is comprised of several neighbourhoods, each offering a unique atmosphere and set of advantages for international visitors. Choosing the right base is crucial for tailoring your experience, whether you prioritize proximity to business hubs, access to local markets, or a quieter residential feel. Understanding these nuances will help you navigate the area effectively and make the most of your stay in this dynamic part of Indonesia's capital.

Sunter

Sunter presents a multifaceted urban environment, blending commercial activity with residential living, making it a popular choice for both business and leisure travellers. Its well-developed infrastructure and numerous shopping centres offer a sense of familiarity for visitors from Western countries, while its proximity to key business districts makes it convenient for those on work assignments. Indian travellers might find the variety of dining options and the general accessibility appealing for family trips, offering a good balance of urban convenience and local flavour.

From Sunter, exploring Jakarta's northern attractions is straightforward. The area is home to various shopping malls like Mall Sunter, providing retail therapy and diverse food courts. For those interested in local crafts and unique finds, exploring nearby markets can be rewarding. Getting to Sunter from Jakarta's main international airport typically involves a taxi or ride-sharing service, taking approximately 45-60 minutes depending on traffic. Visitors can easily book attractions and tours that depart from or pass through this central area.

Tanjung Priok (Port Area)

The heart of Tanjung Priok is its bustling port, a vital artery for Indonesia's economy and a fascinating area for travellers interested in maritime history and industrial landscapes. This district offers a raw, authentic glimpse into the city's working life, with a constant flow of ships and cargo. While perhaps less polished than other areas, it provides a unique perspective for those seeking to understand Indonesia's trade and logistics, appealing to travellers from all markets who appreciate a less curated travel experience.

This area is ideal for travellers who want to be close to the port's activities or are interested in its historical significance. Landmarks like Maziah Boutique and Bens Motor are located within or near this district, offering local flavour and points of interest. Access from the airport involves a similar journey time to other northern Jakarta areas, with ride-sharing services being the most practical option. For those staying here, exploring the immediate vicinity can reveal local eateries and small shops offering a genuine taste of daily life.

Warakas

Warakas, situated within the broader Tanjung Priok region, offers a more residential and community-focused atmosphere. It provides a quieter alternative to the more commercialized districts, allowing visitors to experience a more laid-back side of urban Indonesian life. This neighbourhood might appeal to travellers from India or Africa seeking a more grounded experience, away from the intense commercial buzz, while still being within reasonable reach of Jakarta's main attractions and business centres.

This area is characterized by its local housing and community spaces, offering a chance to observe everyday life. While it may not boast major tourist attractions within its immediate vicinity, its charm lies in its authenticity and the opportunity to interact with local residents. Transportation to and from Warakas is best managed via ride-hailing apps, connecting you to the wider city. It's a good base for travellers who prioritize experiencing local neighbourhoods and are comfortable navigating slightly less developed tourist infrastructure.

Kebon Bawang

Kebon Bawang is another neighbourhood within Tanjung Priok that offers a blend of residential living and local commerce. It provides a more grounded perspective on Jakarta life, with a mix of housing, small businesses, and community facilities. This area can be particularly interesting for travellers from Europe or the US who are keen on exploring beyond the typical tourist zones and experiencing a more integrated urban fabric, where daily life unfolds organically.

This district is a good starting point for exploring local culinary scenes, with numerous small warungs (eateries) and street food vendors offering authentic Indonesian flavours. Its accessibility from the airport is comparable to other northern Jakarta areas, with ride-sharing services being the most convenient mode of transport. For travellers looking for an authentic neighbourhood feel and a chance to engage with local culture at a grassroots level, Kebon Bawang provides a suitable base.

Food & Dining

A Taste of Tanjung Priok: Culinary Delights of North Jakarta

Tanjung Priok, as part of Jakarta, offers a rich culinary landscape deeply influenced by Indonesian traditions and its status as a major port city. Iconic dishes like Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Satay (grilled skewers), and Gado-Gado (vegetable salad with peanut sauce) are ubiquitous and prepared with local flair. The region's proximity to the sea also means fresh seafood is a highlight, often prepared in spicy and flavourful sambal sauces. For travellers, exploring these local specialties provides an authentic taste of Indonesian culture, with variations found across different neighbourhoods.

Dining in Tanjung Priok offers a spectrum of experiences, from bustling street food stalls to more established eateries. Areas like Sunter, with its commercial hubs, host numerous restaurants and food courts offering diverse cuisines. For those seeking authentic local flavours, exploring smaller warungs (eateries) in neighbourhoods like Warakas or Kebon Bawang can be rewarding. Muslim travellers will find ample Halal-certified options throughout the region, reflecting Indonesia's predominantly Muslim population, ensuring dietary needs are easily met.

The cost of dining in Tanjung Priok presents excellent value for international visitors. Street food meals can be enjoyed for as little as USD 1-3, offering a budget-friendly way to sample local delicacies. Mid-range restaurants typically charge between USD 5-15 per person, providing a comfortable dining experience. Even more upscale dining options remain relatively affordable compared to Western cities, with meals rarely exceeding USD 25-30 per person, making it an accessible culinary destination for travellers from the US, Europe, India, and Africa.

When dining in Tanjung Priok, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Meals are often communal, and it's polite to wait for elders or hosts to begin eating. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a small amount (around 5-10%) being customary. Many locals use their right hand for eating, especially with rice dishes, though utensils are readily available. Familiarizing yourself with basic Indonesian phrases for ordering can also be helpful and is often met with appreciation.

Local Etiquette & Safety

Navigating Tanjung Priok with Cultural Awareness and Security

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Tanjung Priok. Indonesians are generally polite and value humility. It's customary to greet people, especially elders, with a nod and a smile. When visiting homes or more traditional areas, it's polite to remove your shoes before entering. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, and dressing modestly, particularly when visiting religious sites or more conservative neighbourhoods, is advisable for all travellers.

When visiting landmarks like Maziah Boutique or Bens Motor, it's important to be mindful of local practices. Dress codes are usually relaxed for these types of commercial or recreational spots, but overly revealing attire might attract unwanted attention. Always ask permission before taking photographs of individuals, especially in more traditional settings. Queuing culture is present but can sometimes be less orderly than in Western countries; patience and politeness are appreciated.

Safety in Tanjung Priok is generally good, but like any urban area, awareness is important. Keep valuables secure and be mindful of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a reliable and relatively safe way to get around, often more so than unmetered taxis. Downloading offline maps and essential communication apps can be very helpful for navigation and staying connected.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Indonesia is 112. For specific needs, local police can be contacted. The nearest embassies for key source markets are located in Jakarta's central business district: the US Embassy, British Embassy, Indian Embassy, and various African nation consulates. It is always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and to be aware of any health advisories for the region.

Travel Guide

Your Essential Guide to Reaching and Exploring Tanjung Priok

Reaching Tanjung Priok involves flying into Jakarta's primary international gateway, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK). For travellers from the United States, flights from major hubs like New York (JFK) or Los Angeles (LAX) typically involve one or two layovers, with total journey times ranging from 20 to 30 hours. European travellers from London (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), or Amsterdam (AMS) can expect similar flight durations, often with one stop.

Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) will find more direct routes or shorter layovers, with journeys around 10-15 hours. For travellers from Africa, flights from Nairobi (NBO), Lagos (LOS), or Johannesburg (JNB) will likely involve multiple stops and longer travel times, potentially exceeding 25-30 hours. Upon arrival at CGK, travellers can book flight connections or arrange onward transport to Tanjung Priok.

Navigating Tanjung Priok and its surrounding areas is best done using a combination of transport options. Ride-hailing apps like Grab are prevalent and offer affordable rides for cars and motorcycles, providing a convenient way to travel between neighbourhoods like Sunter, Warakas, and Kebon Bawang. Metered taxis are also available, but it's advisable to ensure the meter is used. For longer distances or to explore further afield, TransJakarta buses offer an extensive network, though they can be crowded. The cost for ride-hailing services typically ranges from USD 2-10 for local trips, while TransJakarta is very economical.

The optimal time to visit Tanjung Priok, and Jakarta in general, is during the dry season, which runs from June to September. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with lower humidity, making it more comfortable for outdoor exploration. While hotel prices might see a slight increase during this peak season, they remain significantly more affordable than in many other global cities. Visiting during the shoulder months of April-May or October-November can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds, appealing to value-conscious travellers from all source markets.

Before departing for Tanjung Priok, a few practical preparations are essential. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), but USD is widely understood for pricing in tourist areas, though not always accepted for small purchases. It's advisable to exchange some currency upon arrival or withdraw from ATMs. Obtaining a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for data access, crucial for ride-hailing apps and navigation. Essential apps include Google Maps, Google Translate, and the Grab app. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Visa Information

Entering Indonesia for Your Tanjung Priok Visit: A Guide for International Travellers

For travellers planning to visit Tanjung Priok, understanding Indonesia's visa requirements is paramount. US passport holders can typically enter Indonesia visa-free for tourism or business for up to 30 days, with the possibility of extension. European passport holders from countries like the UK, Germany, and France also benefit from visa-free entry for similar durations. Indian passport holders are generally eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) or can apply for an e-VOA, allowing for a stay of up to 30 days, extendable once. Travellers from African nations, including Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, should verify specific requirements, as many are eligible for VOA or e-VOA, but it is crucial to confirm based on their nationality.

The application process for visas, where required, is designed to be accessible. For Visa on Arrival, travellers will typically present their passport, proof of onward travel, and sufficient funds at the immigration counter. The fee for VOA is generally around USD 35, payable in USD or local currency. A minimum passport validity of six months is universally required. While not always strictly enforced for visa-free entries, having confirmed hotel bookings and return flight tickets is highly recommended, as immigration officers may request them to ensure you do not intend to overstay.

It is imperative for all international travellers to verify the latest visa regulations with the official Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration or the nearest Indonesian embassy or consulate in their home country before making travel arrangements. Visa policies can change, and confirming your specific entry requirements based on your nationality is the most reliable way to ensure a smooth journey to Tanjung Priok. Booking your book flight and accommodation with flexibility in mind is advisable until visa status is confirmed.
