This hotel is very comfortable, especially the restaurant on the 1st floor. Kwetiau sapi my god, is the best kwetiau I ever had. So good. I've compared it with the one in front of the food court. The one at the hotel restaurant is still better. I come back again and again because the food is delicious at this hotel. The room is super good, the bathroom is super clean, the AC is cold. With that price, it's so cheap but you get a luxury room. Can't find another place like D'Coin. Is my honest testimony. Try it and I think you will think the same as me. Thanks.

More about hotels in Warakas

Tanjung Priok: A Gateway to Indonesia's Dynamic North Jakarta

For the discerning Filipino traveller seeking an authentic Indonesian experience beyond the usual tourist trails, Tanjung Priok offers a compelling blend of industrial significance, burgeoning commercial activity, and a unique local flavour. While Indonesia itself is a vast archipelago of diverse cultures and landscapes, Tanjung Priok, situated in the northern part of Jakarta, presents a distinct urban environment shaped by its vital port and its role as a hub for trade and logistics. It's a place where the pulse of Indonesian commerce beats strongly, offering a different perspective on the nation's development and daily life, far removed from the serene beaches of Bali or the cultural heart of Yogyakarta.

The character of Tanjung Priok is not monolithic; it's a mosaic of distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a unique facet of urban Indonesian living. From the bustling streets of Sunter, known for its commercial centres and residential areas, to the more established port-adjacent districts like Kebon Bawang and the core Tanjung Priok area itself, the choice of where to base yourself significantly influences your experience. Warakas, another key district, adds to this urban tapestry, providing a glimpse into local communities. Understanding these variations is crucial for any international visitor aiming to navigate and appreciate the nuances of this dynamic region.

From a value perspective, Tanjung Priok presents an attractive proposition for international travellers. With an average starting price of just ₱ 564.85 per night and a solid review score of 8.4 from 22 reviews, it signals an accessible destination for those mindful of their travel budget. For travellers from the United States, Europe, India, and Africa, this translates into an opportunity to experience a significant Indonesian urban centre without the premium price tags often associated with more established tourist hotspots. It allows for extended stays or the allocation of more funds towards local experiences and culinary exploration.

The accommodation landscape in Tanjung Priok, as reflected by properties like the Behomy Yume Residence, showcases a range of options catering to various needs. Even at the budget-friendly end, properties offer essential amenities and a local base from which to explore. For travellers looking to secure their accommodation and plan their itinerary, the ability to book hotel rooms easily through platforms like Traveloka ensures a smooth start to their Indonesian adventure. This accessibility to diverse lodging options is a key factor in making Tanjung Priok a viable and appealing destination.

Ultimately, Tanjung Priok is a destination that appeals to a broad spectrum of international travellers, each finding their niche within its urban sprawl. American and European visitors might be drawn to the raw, unfiltered urban experience and the potential for discovering local markets and eateries. Indian travellers, often appreciative of bustling commercial environments and diverse culinary scenes, will find familiar echoes in Tanjung Priok's energetic atmosphere and affordable dining. While direct regional links for African travellers might be less pronounced, the destination offers a valuable insight into a major Southeast Asian economic engine, providing a different yet equally enriching travel perspective.

Best Areas to Stay in Tanjung Priok

Tanjung Priok, while a specific district within the vast metropolis of Jakarta, is comprised of several distinct neighbourhoods, each possessing its own character and offering a unique experience for international visitors. Choosing the right area to stay can significantly shape your trip, influencing everything from your daily commute to the local sights and sounds you encounter. Understanding these nuances is key to unlocking the full potential of your visit, whether you're here for business, leisure, or a combination of both.

Sunter

Sunter emerges as a dynamic and multifaceted district within Tanjung Priok, offering a compelling mix of commercial vibrancy and residential comfort. It's an area that feels modern and well-connected, making it a comfortable base for international travellers who appreciate convenience and a wide array of amenities. The presence of numerous hotels, from budget-friendly options to more upscale establishments, indicates its popularity among visitors. Sunter's energy is palpable, with a constant flow of activity that reflects its status as a key urban centre.

This district is a practical choice for those looking to explore beyond the immediate port area. Sunter is home to various shopping centres, business establishments, and a good selection of restaurants catering to diverse palates. For travellers interested in local culture and shopping, areas like the vicinity of Maziah Boutique might offer a glimpse into local crafts and fashion. Getting to Sunter from Jakarta's main international airport is relatively straightforward, typically involving a taxi or ride-sharing service, making it accessible for those arriving from afar.

Kebon Bawang

Kebon Bawang presents a more grounded and local perspective within Tanjung Priok, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of residents in a well-established urban neighbourhood. It’s an area that feels less polished than some of its commercial counterparts, but this authenticity is precisely what can appeal to travellers seeking a genuine cultural immersion. The atmosphere here is one of community and everyday commerce, with local markets and smaller businesses forming the backbone of the district's economic activity.

For visitors staying in Kebon Bawang, the experience is often about discovering local eateries and understanding the rhythm of a Jakarta neighbourhood. While it may not boast major tourist attractions within its immediate vicinity, its proximity to the port and other industrial areas makes it a practical choice for those with business interests in the region. Exploring the local food stalls and small shops can be a rewarding experience, offering a taste of authentic Indonesian street food and crafts, and it's a great area to book attractions that might be further afield but accessible via local transport.

Warakas

Warakas offers a residential character within the broader Tanjung Priok region, providing a quieter alternative for travellers who prefer to stay away from the most bustling commercial hubs. It’s a district where you can observe the everyday flow of Jakarta life, with local communities and smaller businesses defining its landscape. For international visitors, Warakas can provide a sense of local living, offering a more intimate understanding of the area beyond its industrial or commercial functions.

The appeal of Warakas lies in its local flavour and its position as a residential enclave. While it may not be a primary destination for sightseeing, its accessibility to other parts of Tanjung Priok and North Jakarta makes it a functional base. Travellers might find smaller, more intimate eateries and shops here, offering a chance to interact with locals and experience a less tourist-centric side of the city. Its proximity to key transport routes also aids in navigating the wider Jakarta area, making it a practical, albeit less tourist-focused, choice.

Tanjung Priok (Central)

The central Tanjung Priok area itself is the historical and functional heart of the district, intrinsically linked to the bustling international port that gives it its name. This is where the energy of trade and logistics is most evident, creating a unique urban environment that is both industrial and surprisingly lively. For international visitors, it offers a direct connection to Indonesia's maritime commerce and a glimpse into the operational backbone of the region. The area is characterized by its port facilities, related businesses, and a dense urban fabric.

Staying in central Tanjung Priok means being at the nexus of activity. While it might not have the extensive tourist attractions of other Jakarta areas, its strategic position is undeniable. It's an area where you can find a range of accommodations, from budget-friendly hotels to more functional business-oriented lodgings. The local food scene here is likely to be authentic and varied, reflecting the diverse workforce and communities that inhabit the area. Its connectivity to other parts of Jakarta is also a significant advantage for travellers looking to explore.

From hearty rice dishes to flavourful noodle soups and aromatic curries, the food scene here is a direct reflection of Indonesia's vibrant gastronomic heritage, offering a delicious journey for every palate.

Exploring the food scene in Tanjung Priok means venturing into its local markets and street-side eateries, particularly in areas like Sunter and Kebon Bawang, which are known for their local businesses and residential communities. These are the places where you can find authentic Indonesian fare at affordable prices. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified food is generally straightforward, as Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country, and most local eateries will adhere to Halal practices, offering peace of mind with every meal.

Dining in Tanjung Priok offers excellent value for international travellers. Street food can be enjoyed for as little as ₱ 30-₱ 60 per meal, providing an incredibly budget-friendly way to sample local delicacies. When dining in Tanjung Priok, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Meals are typically enjoyed at a relaxed pace, and tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for excellent service, usually around 10%. It's common to eat with a spoon and fork, though some dishes are best enjoyed with hands. Be adventurous and try local recommendations; many eateries operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and while English might not be widely spoken, a smile and pointing can go a long way in ordering your delicious Indonesian meal.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Tanjung Priok

Navigating the cultural landscape of Tanjung Priok requires an awareness of local customs to ensure respectful interactions. While Jakarta is accustomed to international visitors, understanding basic etiquette can prevent misunderstandings. For instance, it's customary to use your right hand for giving and receiving items, especially food, and to dress modestly when visiting local neighbourhoods or religious sites, covering shoulders and knees. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, and maintaining a polite and friendly demeanour is always appreciated.

When visiting landmarks like Maziah Boutique or Bens Motor, or any local establishment, it's important to be mindful of specific protocols. Dress codes are usually relaxed for shopping areas, but if you encounter any religious sites or more traditional settings, modest attire is advisable. Photography is generally permitted, but it's always polite to ask permission before taking pictures of individuals. Observing how locals behave in queues and public spaces will help you blend in and show respect for the community's norms.

Practical safety in Tanjung Priok is similar to other large urban centres. It's wise to keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Utilizing reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek is highly recommended for safe and convenient transportation, offering transparent pricing. While petty theft can occur, exercising common sense and avoiding unnecessary risks will significantly contribute to a safe and enjoyable visit to the area.

In case of emergencies, dialling 112 will connect you to Indonesian emergency services. For Filipino travellers, the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta is your primary point of contact for consular assistance, located at Jl. Imam Bonjol No. 8, Jakarta Pusat. It's always advisable to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and to be aware of any advisories issued by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) regarding travel to Indonesia. Staying informed and prepared ensures a secure trip.

Getting to Tanjung Priok and Getting Around

For Filipino travellers planning a trip to Tanjung Priok, the journey typically begins with a flight to Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) or Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport (HLP). Flights from Manila (MNL), Cebu (CEB), or other major Philippine hubs often involve a layover, with total travel times ranging from 7 to 12 hours depending on the connection. Airlines like Philippine Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, and various regional carriers offer routes. Booking your book flight in advance can secure better fares, with prices often starting from ₱ 8,000 to ₱ 15,000 for a round trip, subject to seasonal demand.

Once you arrive in Jakarta, reaching Tanjung Priok involves a journey of approximately 20-30 kilometers, depending on your exact location within the district. The most convenient way to travel is by taxi or ride-sharing services like Grab or Gojek, which are readily available at the airport. The fare can range from ₱ 300 to ₱ 600, with travel time varying significantly based on Jakarta's notorious traffic, typically taking 45 minutes to over an hour. Public transport options, such as TransJakarta buses, are more economical but can be complex for first-time visitors and significantly slower.

The best time to visit Tanjung Priok, and Jakarta in general, is during the dry season, which runs from June to September. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it pleasant for exploring the city. However, this period also coincides with peak tourist season, meaning higher hotel prices and more crowds. For a balance of good weather and fewer tourists, consider the shoulder months of May or October, where you might find better deals on accommodation and flights.

Before you depart for Tanjung Priok, ensure you have your passport, which must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay. The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is essential for local markets and smaller vendors. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport upon arrival is highly recommended for easy data access and communication. Essential apps to download include Google Maps for navigation, Grab or Gojek for transport, and a translation app.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning to visit Indonesia, including the Tanjung Priok area, visa requirements are generally straightforward. As of recent regulations, Filipino citizens are typically granted a visa-free entry for short stays, usually up to 30 days, for tourism or business purposes. This allows for a convenient and hassle-free arrival, provided your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of entry and you possess proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket.

The application process for visa-free entry is minimal; upon arrival at the Indonesian port of entry, immigration officials will verify your passport and onward travel documents. While no visa fee is charged for this visa-free facility, it's crucial to adhere to the permitted length of stay. Overstaying can result in penalties, including fines or deportation. It is always recommended to check the latest visa regulations with the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines before your travel dates, as policies can be subject to change.

While visa-free entry is common, it is imperative for all travellers, including those from the US, Europe, India, and Africa, to verify the most current visa requirements with the official Indonesian immigration authorities or their respective embassies. Policies can be updated without prior notice. Confirming your visa status and any necessary documentation before booking your book flight is a prudent step to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted journey to Tanjung Priok and Indonesia.
