One of the best hotels we've stayed in recently - Ambra on reception was fantastically helpful, and everything worked wonderfully - great breakfast, cracking location, we loved being able to use their bikes, and the sunset from our balcony on night one was stunning. Would happily return to this hotel in the future : )

First of all, ignore all the negative reviews about the hotel staff and service in past reviews. If Hotel Smeraldo or Hotel La Paul had any issues in the past, I experienced NONE of them during our stay there. I booked the hotel because of the competitive price it offered for an amazing location right beside Lake Garda and I ended up getting twice what I expected in terms of quality and service. We stayed here for four days and had nothing but good experiences. Our room was at the bottom floor that had a small shaded terrace leading out towards the lake. If you want relaxing views while drinking coffee in the morning or wine during the evenings, request first floor lakeside rooms. The hotel is actually an extension of Hotel La Paul so you'll get to experience 2 hotels, 2 restaurants, 2 pools, and 2 beaches that are staffed by friendly and helpful hotel employees 24/7. Whenever we had an issue with our room, it was immediately fixed after we informed the front desk (Thanks again to Ambra, one of the most pleasant receptionists we've met!). Restaurants that serve good Italian food and Gelatto stores are also plentiful in the old town although the food at the hotel is great as well (they had one of best Risottos I've had in Italy). Barbara, the restaurant manager at Hotel Le Paul, will ensure pleasant dinners for you, your significant other, and the rest of your family. Overall, a stay in this hotel is a MUST for travelers who are looking for good value for their vacation money.

We booked a room called "Panorama laterale". When we walked into the room, there was no view. Nothing! A big tree, roofs, maybe 5% of it was a view on a far mountain/sky above the lake. But no lake! We went back to reception, saying that we paid extra for the "partial view", but there was nothing to see. We asked a refund, or a room with the view. He said at 5 PM he could do nothing. He had 2 rooms with a full view, but he could not give one of them to us. We asked for a manager. He called her (Concetta). She said the same - nothing they could do! My husband asked to talk to her, and she was mad that we bothered her after 5 PM. 1 hour later they said we could have the panoramic view room for 150 Euros more! It was on the 1st floor, view on half-naked people on the beach. We refused to pay extra for something we were supposed to already have with our booking. We kept the same room with a view on the roofs with no refund offered. In the morning, during breakfast, my daughter asked for orange juice. They said they did not have it, and my husband asked to show what juices thy had in the cabinet. While reaching there, one juice carton fell on the flour. 2 min later manager Concetta came to our breakfast table and told us loudly to leave the hotel in 1 hour (humiliation!), no second night stay. My husband explained what happened at breakfast but she said he was lying! Expedia, the receptionist said their PARTIAL VIEW rooms are like that -no view! Don't sell their rooms as with view

Area over looking the sea is great, until you try and get out, hidden steps help. Although no major issues, it did feel that you were over paying for the room quality and breakfast, however, from a location perspective it was a 20 minute walk from the centre of town which made things relatively accessible. Pool is very much a toddler pool.

The lake view is stunning and it is so peaceful to sit right next to the water! The hotel staff were very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the old town, which was a huge upside to our stay. The hotel would benefit from a bar with a coffee machine for the evenings- however, La Paul, the hotel adjoined to this one, does have this.

Nice hotel friendly staff, Great Lake views, comfy room and beds, just make sure you get two room keys, so you can leave one in all the time so air con and fridge stay on, only gripe I had was that the coffee was not always replaced, so didn't have a cup overlooking the gorgeous lake in the morning, but great holiday had.

The hotel looked closed at first and I couldn't find my way in as all doors require access cards. I could see the reception but no one was there. In the end it became clear, check in across the road at sister hotel. (Stand with Smereldo behind you at the main road and look across the road to the left, it is there). Check in was simple, car park at front with push button gate. Very few people were seen in the hotel (good/bad). We were on the second floor looking out to the lake, it was a nice view no means fantastic but a few drinks on it went well. The room itself was fine, in my opinion a little oldy worldy but thats ok. We didn't use the pool so can't comment. We did however get a night where we had a ceiling full of insects, we spent 20mins 'removing' them. We did have the door open for a few hours and were not aware of insect issues prior- keep door closed at night is my advice. Would I stay again - yes, but I would consider other locations as I think there is better. We did get it at a good price though.

Arrived the hotel at ten am in the morning , could not get it to the hotel. No sign in English to tell us that we would have to check in at hotel la paul across the road. Luckily the lady looking after the breakfast room told us. We felt that we were left on our own , anything needed we would have to walk across the road to hotel La Paul reception to place the request as NO staff in hotel Smeraldo. As advertised, the hotel Smeraldo did have a swimming pool (paddling pool) the main pool was across the road at hotel La Paul. The pictures shown on the website of the outside grounds are not true to form. I find that hotel Smeraldo and hotel La Paul are two different hotels or are they one hotel ?? if they are one should there not be the same treatment given as La Paul ( breakfast) We felt we spent a lot on this holiday and we were in budget accommodation.

A bit weird in the sense that there aren't really any staff you see as you check in across the road, but nice room and good views...although when rooms next door flush their toilet it is very loud!

Hotel rooms were clean and comfortable...this cannot be faulted. The breakfast staff and cleaners were polite and friendly. Unfortunately, the reception staff could be pretty rude one day and nice the next. When we arrived to check in we were told we had to stay the first night in La Paul...the sister hotel...there was no apology or explanation as to why. This meant we would have wait until 10'30 the next morning to be able to move rooms which ate into our first morning. Once moved rooms (the hotel was across the road) we were told our breakfast would be in La Paul every morning. Which wasn't too bad as the breakfast room had a lovely view of the lake. Although be careful as there is a very small step which numerous people fell to the floor over..including my mum. I'm surprised they don't have something to make it visible. After a few days of La Paul breakfast we were told to eat at Smeraldo which we did to then be told we had to eat at La Paul's...no one seemed to know what we were to do and it got to be beyond a joke. I wouldn't stay here again or book a hotel with a sister hotel again I certainly learned my lesson.

From the outside it looked run down in fact I called the hotel from the car thinking it was closed. The pool and bathing area were not inviting, again very tatty. The plus side it was in a good position.

We stayed at Hotel Smeraldo for 5 nights in the beginning of August. The hotel La Paul across the street and Smeraldo belong together which is why you can use the pool of both hotels (La Paul has a bigger one, Smeraldo only one for kids). Both hotels have parking lots. Smeraldo doesn't have a front desk so we checked in at La Paul. We got there at 1 and were told that we couldn't check in until 2 (their official check in time). Staff was very friendly and spoke good English. The room was much nicer than expected (the hotel doesn't look that great from the outside) with everything we needed (blow dryer, toiletries, small TV) and with a very well working air condition. La Paul also has a nice garden with chairs and access to the water through a dock (we never went to the garden at Smeraldo). Breakfast was okay, there was a selection of rolls (pretty dry and hard), pastries and cakes, sausage and cheese, jam, juice, milk, cereal and yoghurt. The items are the exact same every day. Nothing spectacular but sufficient, especially when you want to save room for all the great Italian food :). It is about a 10 minute walk into the center of Sirmione. There are tons of restaurants, bars, ice cream places and a few public beaches where you can rent paddle boats. The beaches areall stone and rocks though, so it's a good idea to wear shoes into the water to not hurt your feet. All in all we had a great time and were happy with the hotel, staff and area.

We travel a lot and this is one of the best hotels we have stayed at. Stayed at annex Smeraldo and got a great room at top floor, very good sized and bathroom was huge! If the room also would included a minibar and coffe/tea making facilities I would give it a 5, for now it is a clear 4+. Great balcony with view of the lake as well. Good breakfast and the garden/beach area is just lovely. Free bikes which is great when wanting to make some sightseeing in the area. Otherwise location of the hotel can not be better for visiting beautiful Sirmione, only a 10 minutes walk away.

Cozy hotel with the possibility of both swimming in Garda and in the pool. The neighboring hotel's pool is recommended (available to this hotel's guests). Parking options in the area. Very tight and the car got really dirty from birds. Cozy center within walking distance. Expensive restaurants so bring your own big wallet.
