Again service in Japan and at hotel Around was faultless. Our hotel was perfectly situated for a 3 night stay. Walking distance to train and shopping/ old quarter etc.

Nice staff, very helpful and efficient. Nice big comfortable room. Good breakfast, though I prefer a breakfast buffet than the bento set meal we had. Only one thing I didn’t like- the shower in our room was weird.

We loved The Ascend, very close to the train station and downtown. The staff was great, shout out to Kumon who was of great help recovering my daughter’s lost backpack. Absolutely recommend it… best stay in Japan!

Lovely modern hotel! Our room was spacious by Japanese standards, staff were always eager to assist. Breakfast came in the form of bento sets, both Japanese and western options were delicious. Will stay again if I am in the area.

The hotel is only a block away from Takayama station and is an easy walk to the touristy Old Town. The staff were great and the room was nice. The Onsen was not bad.

The family room was spacious for 5 mattresses on an elevated platform. Modern, clean and with the basic amenities, the room served as a good base for our trip. The hotel itself is new with bikes for rent for visitors and is 200meters from the station. The lobby has a small restaurant and a side that features a map of Takayama and its attractions. There is also an album for attractions and restaurants to visit with visitors handwritten reviews on each. It’s not as near to the old town as other accommodations but it is not that far either. For those who want to stay in a new, clean hotel, this is a good choice.
P.S. they have a public bath for men and women and a private bath by reservation one can enjoy after walking around.

Hotel at Takayama is ok. Staff not really engaged, diverted from breakfast as they were closing it at 10( it was 9 am??). Self check in what a crock just an excuse to have less staff. Room window leaked air alll night with a whine sound. Great town shame about hotel

The property was clean, but it seemed like they were trying to limit any service interaction as much as they could - I understand they are saying they are being eco friendly and efficient, but limited dinner service (they said I could only order room service, but when I called room service no one answered), and limiting most interaction with staff, lots of noisy guests, made the stay less enjoyable. That said, I would say the staff we did interact with made an effort, but they were limited to the sparse services made available to us. The proximity to Old Town and the bus center was a big plus.

The breakfast was very good. The room was relatively large and had a nice bench seating area. We were able to walk from the train station and to the bus station for Shirakawa. The hotel seemed to have plenty of parking, though we did not use it. They had loaner umbrellas by the front door.

Great 3 night stay. Amazing staff and beautiful Japanese breakfast. The hot spring bath was a nice bonus. Highly recommend and would stay again.
