Hotel MyStays Kyoto - Shijo

Location and staff

Short walking distance from lots of main shopping you find yourself doing in Japan and close to lots of popular shrines and temples by walk and bus as well. A tiny bit of a trek to the closest train station especially in the hot summer.. Facility was nice and clean, loved the complimentary coffee and tea and staff were very nice and helpful, especially with luggage forwarding.

Wonderful hotel with lovely staff - location is fantatstic in a central downtown in Kyoto. Check in and out was smooth.

Excellent location and ample rooms, but the breakfast could be better.

The lobby is on the second floor so you have to go there if you need any in person support. Elevators take awhile so keep that in mind. Asides from that everything was great. They give cute pjs and toiletries.

Room was over heated and couldn’t open windows for fresh air. I didn’t sleep, soaked in sweat and felt sick from the heat. Heating was centrally controlled.

Breakfast is great

Overall experience was so-so, would go to a different hotel if I return to Kyoto.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the room. Reserved a triple room for 3 adult women. Ample space for us for several days. Housekeeping staff wqs very accommodating to our requests.

Would have L preferred that you had to use the hotel key to get up to the floors. Anyone could come in and press a floor in the elevator. I still felt safe as I did in the area. Would have just been a bonus as all the other hotels I stayed in you had to swipe your key to access floors. Other than that it was a great hotel with spacious rooms.

Supermarkets and convenience stores very close by as in next door on both sides, across the street and around the corner. Great location because it is between two subway train stations and lots of bus routes right outside the hotel. Walking distance to Nishiki Market, Teramachi Shopping Street, Shinkyogoku Shopping Street, and shijo-Kawaramachi shopping area and malls. Close to Shijo Station on Karasuma line.

Property is in a great location on Shijo, about 8 minute walk from Shijo-Karasuma station and about 10 minute walk to Omiya station. Rooms were large and restaurant on 1st floor offers breakfast at an additional cost. Life Supermarket right next door, Fresco Supermarket two doors down on the other side, Family Mart right across the street and a 7-11 around the corner about a block away behind the hotel on a small street. There are also a cluster of hotels in the area. There are restaurants nearby. Nishiki Market is only about a 15 minute walk away. Very close 20-25 minute walk to Teramachi Shopping street, Shinkygoku Shopping street and Shijo-Kawaramachi Shopping areas. Lots to do in the area and great for transit as there are plenty of bus routes on Shijo outside of the hotel. Rooms are clean with great housekeeping everyday. Carpets could be cleaner but not a big deal. This hotel is better as a tourist hotel vs being a business hotel but great for that also. Laundry service available 24 hours a day with coin op washers and dryers on the first floor. We stayed here for about 7 days the whole time we were in Kyoto and decided to stay because the train ride to Osaka was only about an hour which beats having to change hotels to Osaka. I would definitely recommend the stay here as a no frills no nonsense budget friendly hotel option. Free coffee, tea and matcha until 9 pm everyday was a great perk.
