Generally the stay was good but unfortunately the very positive policy of the hotel towards dogs significantly impacted on my enjoyment of the visit. In particular the number of dogs in the dining areas at both dinner and breakfast times was unattractive.

Faded grandeur is the phrase which most springs to mind. In its heyday this must have been a magnificent private residence but maintaining buildings like this requires very deep pockets. It is a 3 star hotel and is deserving of that category. We had a deluxe bedroom. In most other properties this would have been marketed as a suite for we had two large rooms, a spacious king sized bedroom & a comfortable lounge area. Breakfast, cooked to order, is served in two magnificent first floor rooms at well spaced tables. Dinner is served in the ground floor bistro. The menu is typical bar food but our meal was tasty & nicely presented. Reception staff were super friendly & helpful, in contrast to one of the bar staff who was curt to the point of rudeness. Above all this is a place of peace & tranquility set in lovely grounds and surrounded by magnificent countryside. We would return.

The staff were all friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and the room a good size. The food was good without being exceptional. The hotel is a little tired and dated but we were very happy and their attitude to dogs being indoors was first class. We will be back I’m sure.

Hotel was beautiful and food was plentiful and enjoyable. Just needs more attention to housekeeping in our bedroom. Bath layer of soap grim on sides. Several trailing cobwebs from ceiling.. which spoilt an otherwise cheerful room which was a shame..

A little dated. Room was fine, not enough lights. Bathroom was clean and well presented. No toiletries however. The mattress very soft. Food was expensive for what you got. At dinner I requested a chicken wrap, it mentioned lettuce, tomato and red onion. I was expecting a soft tortilla wrap with chicken. What I got was a wrap that had been put under a panini press, red hot and crispy, not soft and tasty. The lettuce etc was inside the wrap and was cooked, cooked lettuce is not a very tasty thing to serve up. The 3x cooked chips were very nice but overall a very dry meal with no side salad and a very boring plateful. £19 for this! The dining room was disappointing, no tablecloths, it felt as if we were sitting in a cheap cafe with bare wooden tables and decanters filled with coloured water that lit our table with a battery operated topper except the battery ran out after five minutes. Paper tablecloths on the table at breakfast. The Eggs Benedict was disappointing. The muffin was not buttered. Bacon was fine but the eggs were reheated and undercooked. A totally underwhelming experience overall unfortunately. This is a lovely hotel with a riverside location but it badly needs an injection of funds to renovate and improve the dated decor. It needs more people in the kitchen as we were asked to leave it until after 8 for dinner as the kitchen couldn’t cope with a lot of people at once. We sat down at 7.55 and got our meal at 8.50. The canteen atmosphere didn’t help either

Receptionist was not at all helpful and looked like she would prefer to be anywhere else. In the room we had only the very basics and attention to detail was poor ( only one teaspoon, no spare toilet roll etc. The bar staff were polite and in particular the senior guy (pink shirt), but breakfast was so disappointing and I have h better in a budget hotel like holiday inn express. Would not stay again
