Nice, well-kept property in a good location. Rooms and common areas were well appointed, and the pool and spa areas were very nice to have in the heat of summer. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was delay in getting to my room, which wasn't ready until after 3:30pm and I had to keep checking because I had no notification.

We stayed at Hotel 1898 very recently and during the World Cup semi-finals. We were glad we chose to stay there. This is an immaculate property. The staff was friendly all the way from check-in to the spa front desk attendant, to the waiters and bartenders and cooks at La Isabela terrace, the hotel's rooftop restaurant/bar and pool space. The rooms were beautiful and very clean and the bathrooms have tubs vs walk-in showers. A nice touch indeed. The food at La Isabella was AMAZING and very delicious and cooked fresh on the rooftop kitchen. Compliments to the chef and his staff. The breakfast was also AMAZING and very delicious, featuring fresh foods, breads, cheeses, and fruits as well as eggs and breakfast meats--worth it to dine at Hotel 1898. You must at least do this during your stay. We were glad we did. The property's location is central to everything you need--thre's a supermarket a few feet away on Las Ramblas and Mercat de la Boqueria in the opposite direction. The metro is also nearby and very easy to get to from Hotel 1898. Personally, my stay was made better because of employees like Yanquiel at La Isabela and Anton at the front desk. Both treated me and my wife with respect, professionally and courteously. Anton handled our concern immediately and my wife was very thankful for his assistance late at night. Our stay was perfect. The service was excellent--thank you Anton and Yanquiel. And the location was central to everything we needed.

The location is excellent and conveniently close to everything. The hotel room was extremely clean, beautiful, quiet, and recently updated. Be sure not to miss the rooftop bar—the views are absolutely spectacular and one of the highlights of the stay.

This property is absolutely stunning! You actually don’t mind just sitting in the lobby, it’s so beautiful. The spa is spectacular, and is free for 30 minutes each day! We arrived early and were able to relax in the spa and then hang out at the rooftop pool until our room was ready. Service was impeccable. We highly recommend this property!

Loved this hotel so much. Staff was kind, helpful and outstanding in every area. Rooms were spacious and clean. Hotel is really beautiful and centrally located to eat and shop. Spa was fantastic and a free perk for guests. Rooftop was beautiful and pool was nice. The breakfast buffet was ok, more of an average buffet nothing spectacular. I highly recommend Hotel 1898 when visiting Barcelona, Spain. I would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful! They were able to get us into a room upon check in, and we did arrive early. So that was a great way to start! Beautiful hotel! Dinner on the rooftop terrace was delicious, and the view was amazing! I left my lil pouch up there, but didn't realize until the morning. When I went to the front desk to check out, before I even asked about it, she was coming out with my pouch! Excellent staff through and through! Can't wait to go back!

I have been staying at Hotel 1898 for over 15 years and even chose it for my honeymoon, so it genuinely saddens me to write this review. It has always been my first choice whenever I visit Barcelona. Unfortunately, over my last two stays I have been checked in by the same member of staff, who on both occasions came across as unfriendly and rude. First impressions matter, and as a returning guest I certainly didn't feel welcomed. I also feel that the level of service has gradually declined over the years. When I first started staying here, breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace, which was a wonderful experience. Although that changed, I continued returning because I enjoy the hotel and always book a terrace room. However, I was disappointed to find that room service breakfast order cards are no longer provided, so we chose not to have breakfast at the hotel. It's also noticeable that many other Barcelona hotels I stay at, such as H10, Borneta, Duquesa and The Serras, offer guests a small complimentary welcome drink or similar gesture. It may seem like a small thing, but it makes guests feel appreciated and valued. Hotel 1898 is still a beautiful property in a fantastic location, but for the first time in over 15 years I'm questioning whether it will remain my first choice. Loyal guests have plenty of options in Barcelona, and I hope the management will focus on restoring the level of hospitality that made this hotel so special in the first place.
