The hotel room is very clean, modern, comfortable, and there is also a free mini bar (snacks and drinks). The location is in the city center, near the MRT station, and many choices of places to eat around the hotel. The hotel staff is very agile and friendly, when checking out we were helped to find a taxi to the airport. Even the staff without being asked immediately helped lift our many and heavy suitcases into the taxi. If we visit Kaohsiung again, this hotel will definitely be our first choice to stay.

Keep valuables secure, especially in crowded markets or on public transport. Ride-hailing apps like Uber and local equivalents are available and offer a convenient way to get around, though it's wise to confirm the availability and pricing of specific services upon arrival. Having offline maps and translation apps downloaded can be invaluable for navigation and communication.

In case of emergencies, the general emergency number in Taiwan is 110 for police and 119 for fire and ambulance services. For travellers from the US, the U.S. Consulate General in Kaohsiung can provide assistance. European travellers can seek help from their respective embassies or consulates in Taiwan. Indian citizens can contact the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in India or its branches. For travellers from Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, contacting their nearest embassy or consulate in Taiwan is recommended. It is always advisable to have comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies.

Getting to Yanchao and Getting Around

Reaching Yanchao from major international hubs requires careful planning, with the primary gateway being Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH). For travellers from the United States, flights from New York (JFK) or Los Angeles (LAX) typically involve one or two stops, with journey times ranging from 20 to 30 hours. European travellers flying from London (LHR) or Frankfurt (FRA) can expect similar transit times, often with a stopover in a major Asian hub.

Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) will find direct or one-stop flights to Kaohsiung, with durations around 8-12 hours. For travellers from Africa, flights from Nairobi (NBO) or Johannesburg (JNB) will likely involve multiple stops and longer travel times, potentially exceeding 24 hours. From Kaohsiung International Airport, Yanchao is accessible via taxi or public transport, typically taking 30-60 minutes depending on traffic and your specific destination within Yanchao. Consider booking your flight well in advance to secure better fares.

Navigating Yanchao and its surrounding areas is made convenient by a well-developed public transportation system. The Kaohsiung MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system is efficient and covers many key districts, with stations like those in Sinsing and Qianzhen providing excellent access. Bus services are extensive and connect various parts of the region, including areas not served by the MRT. Taxis are readily available, and ride-hailing apps are also operational. For travellers from the US and Europe, the MRT is particularly user-friendly. Indian and African travellers will find the bus system affordable and comprehensive, though understanding routes might require some initial effort or assistance.

The best time to visit Yanchao generally falls during the cooler, drier months, from October to March. During this period, temperatures are pleasant, ranging from the mid-teens to the mid-twenties Celsius (60s to 70s Fahrenheit), making it ideal for outdoor exploration. Spring (April-May) can be warm and humid, while summer (June-September) is hot, humid, and prone to typhoons, though it also offers lower hotel prices. For travellers from India and Africa, the cooler months align well with avoiding extreme heat, while US and European visitors will find this period most comfortable for sightseeing.

Before departing for Yanchao, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is advisable for smaller vendors and markets. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is straightforward and affordable, providing easy access to data for navigation and communication. Essential apps include Google Maps, Google Translate, and a local transport app. Confirming your visa requirements for Taiwan well in advance of booking your flight is paramount. Visa Information

For travellers aiming to visit Yanchao, the entry requirements are governed by Taiwan's immigration policies. United States passport holders can typically enter Taiwan visa-free for up to 90 days, making it a straightforward destination for American tourists. European citizens holding passports from the UK, Germany, or France also benefit from visa-free entry for stays of up to 90 days.

Indian passport holders generally require a visa to enter Taiwan, though specific conditions and visa-on-arrival possibilities may exist for those with valid visas or residency from certain countries like the US, Canada, or Schengen Area nations; verification is essential. For travellers from African nations such as Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, a visa is typically required, and the application process can be more involved, often necessitating an application submitted in advance through a Taiwanese representative office.

The visa application process for those who require one involves submitting a completed application form, a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity, recent passport-sized photographs, and proof of onward travel, such as a return flight booking. Depending on the applicant's nationality and purpose of visit, additional documents like financial statements, hotel reservations, or an itinerary may be requested. Fees for visas vary by nationality and type of visa, but generally range from USD 50 to USD 100. It is crucial for all travellers to confirm the exact documentation and procedures with the relevant Taiwanese embassy or representative office in their home country.

Visa policies and requirements can change, so it is imperative for all international visitors, regardless of nationality, to verify the latest information directly with Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs or the nearest Taiwanese embassy or representative office before making any travel arrangements. Confirming your visa status and understanding the permitted length of stay is a critical step before you book your flight to ensure a smooth entry into Taiwan and your subsequent journey to Yanchao.
