Kloem Hostel

Kloem Hostel is a former traditional Thai stilted house built in 1957 that has been renovated with iconic modern architecture for a hostel service.

Amid the rapid urbanisation of the metropolis, traditional Thai houses, once a common sight, have been demolished and replaced by modern concrete blocks and flats.

Therefore, to keep this piece of history alive, our renovation was carefully planned by a team of specialists, architects, and interior designers to preserve as much of the original structure of the house as possible. Also, materials from the wooden walls that had been knocked down were also transformed into furniture, including the grand table in our lobby where guests can meet and socialize.

While it is tucked away in a small peaceful alley with a vibrant local community where you can immerse yourself in its soothing vibes during your getaway holiday right in the heart of Bangkok, Kloem Hostel is also only one kilometer from one of Bangkok’s best-known CBD and is within a walking distance from Bangkok’s main public transport services (10 minutes away from Phaya Thai Airport Rail Link and 10 minutes from Bangkok Skytrain (BTS) Phaya Thai Station).

• Check-in: 3 p.m.
• Check-out: 12 p.m.
• Guests have to be 8 years or older with a valid photo ID to check-in.
• Upon check-in, we ask all guests to show valid photo identification such as a passport or ID card.

Atmosphere

Once you’ve stepped inside Kloem Hostel, you can forget about the scorching and bustling Bangkok outside.

The hardwood floor, walls, and ceiling of our stilted house allow for great ventilation, meaning that you can feel a gentle breeze inside even in the summer. In addition, the space is also well-lit during the day, thanks to the Thai-style fretwork in the wooden panels high up on the walls on the upper floor that let natural light through, illuminating the room.

Designed to be the ultimate sanctuary of tranquility and relaxation for you, the space offers a range of possible ways you can have quality down-time and truly unwind. You can sway on our hammocks hung around the lobby and garden, close your eyes, and let all the worries melt away, or spend an entire day on these hammocks with your favorite books and music. Or simply unfold a Thai mattress on our lush green lawn, lie down, and just watch the clouds slowly drift by. We also have a lot of tame cats (but cat is a cat, you know) who love to walk lazily around the hostel, so sometimes you may have a small group of purring visitors dropping by to say hi.

The highlight of our garden is two Malay rose apple trees, aged more than 50 years, standing majestically in a corner of our garden. Every summer and winter, if you are fortunate enough to arrive at the perfect time, you will get a glimpse of a lovely carpet of bright pink rose-apple pollen that appears as if it was rolled out to welcome our visitors.

Personalize your space.

After checking in, it’s time to decorate your own private space. All guests who stay at Kloem Hostel can borrow ornaments from our shelves to make your bed feel more like home. We have a teddy bear, a fishbowl with an elegant Siamese fighting fish moving slowly around, books, pots of plants, a fish mobile made of palm leaves, a small fan, a clock, hammocks (for private rooms only) and many other things you may never think of.

We believe that our guests who have chosen to stay with us in our traditional Thai house share one thing in common: a love for Thai culture. We regularly hold weekend activities and special workshops to introduce our international guests to local crafts and culture. Feel free to check with our friendly staff to learn more about these activities

Want to make some friends? Don’t be shy. Just head to the grand table at lobby, where you can find other fellow travelers. Ask our staff for board games and start breaking the ice! You’ll find that strangers will become no strangers in no time. You should also look for the owner ‘Kam’. She wouldn’t mind a chat or a few drinks with you to make you feel right at home.

The local community offers a truly unique oasis of rustic ways of life amid the urban setting of the capital city.This is where hundreds of street food vendors you'll see across inner Bangkok live and make their food, home of tuk tuk drivers, the famous and distinctly Thai mode of transportation that offers you a unique way of getting around the city, not to be missed for once-in-a-life-time experience, local fortune tellers, a Thai boxing camp, and a hidden track along the railways, along which you can walk to explore. As you walk through the alley, you’ll also see chickens that some of the residents raise for their eggs, either kept in traditional bamboo coops or allowed to roam free, as well as gardens where the locals grow their own vegetables.
Early risers can take a short walk to the morning market nearby and be dazzled by the vast variety of food, ranging from rustic northeastern Thai delicacies to Chinese and Halal dishes, made by the locals from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds who co-exist harmoniously in the community.
