I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay left much to be desired. While the hotel appears promising online, the actual experience didn’t match the marketing. • The pool area is severely misrepresented. The pool beds for hotel guests are nothing like the promotional photos — they’re far less appealing and must be reserved a day in advance, which isn’t disclosed clearly. They shouldn’t be advertised as part of the stay if access is this limited. • Cable service was unreliable, frequently cutting in and out. • My shower flooded every time I used it, making the bathroom messy and uncomfortable. • Housekeeping was inconsistent — daily water wasn’t replenished, and after using the provided shower cap, it was removed and never replaced. • I attempted to call the front desk multiple times, but no one ever answered. • The hair dryer is oddly stored in a closet with a very short and restrictive cord, making it awkward to use. • Lastly, be warned: if you open your curtains, neighboring rooms can see directly inside, offering little to no privacy. This stay felt frustrating and underwhelming, especially for the price point. I wish I stayed somewhere else.

The fortina was just the best, the staff on arrival were the best, informative, polite, courteous and couldn't do enough, the room was fabulous with an amazing view across the harbour to Valletta, the food was amazing, if I was to have any negative points it would be for the hotel not to advertise that it has an out door pool....it doesn't, it has a very small share in an out door pool, that you have to book a slot at the day before. But when you get to the pool you are told which beds you can have, no sea views, all at the back etc. priority is given to people not staying at the hotel for a premium 50euros per lounger

Lovely modern hotel, very friendly snd helpful staff. Ferry to Valletta is nearby snd super convenient. Highly recommend this hotel

Great staff hotel has amazing views

Everything was amazing besides the location of the pool! It is why I gave it 4 stars. I would even give it 3 stars only because of that. It is a shared pool across the street from the hotel! Meaning its open to the public, and if you like to use It you need to reserve it the day before! Because it's open to the public and they do charge really good prices for day passes they do prioritize the guests from the outside. We never got any good lounges, matter of fact we went 3 times and each time were given the worst possible spots! It is extremely inconvenient and not very well thought 😕 Malta doesn't really have any good beaches so we were hopping to at least enjoy some good pool times!

Lovely views. Good location for short journey to Valletta. Very nice hotel although pool is not solely for the hotel and is a separate spa so have to book sunbeds to use although it all went quite smoothly.

We were veru happy with this property and with the staff. Location was ideal.

Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nice clean room with large bathroom decent sized shower. There was a blue sensor light on the ceiling which did disturb sleep as it lit up with the slightest of movement and the ceiling was too high to cover the light temporarily. Stayed in March so too cold and windy to enjoy balcony which had a partial sea view and view of Valetta. Room service overall was good, but some issues getting tea and coffee to cover both an evening drink and morning, though this eventually got sorted. Also found balcony door had been left partially open on one occasion after room had been serviced. Indoor pool hours could be better but would meet most people’s needs. Outdoor pool was a good size, though sadly didn’t get a chance to use it. Good sized gym with lots of equipment on offer. The lobby was lacking atmosphere and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. The bar area is across the road and down a level as it forms part of the outdoor pool area, but a small bar in the lobby would get passing trade as well as make a nice pit stop before heading to room. Didn’t use restaurant or have breakfast as lots of options for food and drink in the general Sliema area.

Had a pretty decent stay at Barcelo Fortina Malta. Check in was easy and smooth. I booked last minute and the only room available was their cheapest option. It was room 237 and the balcony faced the bridge leading to the mall next to the hotel. People constantly crossing so couldn't leave the curtains open as they could see straight into the room. In future if all available is their cheapest room I wouldn't book. The breakfast had a good selection and finished at a decent hour allowing a bit of sleeping in. The coffee tasted cheap however. At the egg station Anthony made some of the best omelettes I've had in years. Only issue we had was that the clothes iron we had in our room was leaking water and not working properly. Housekeeping came to see about it and instead of simply changing it for a working one, seemed to interrogate us and made it seem like our fault the iron wasn't working as we overfilled it. I can guarantee we didn't fill it beyond the max line. They eventually changed it, but it took about 30 minutes+ for their technician to investigate the faulty iron which meant we were just waiting around in the room. In these instances, especially in a '5 star hotel' it should've been a simple 'Thank you for letting us know' and immediately replace the faulty iron without any questions and they can investigate on their own time. It's a great location, and a 5 minute walk from downtown Sliema and the ferry. Unsure if I would stay again. Good coffee is important.

Nice location and very modern. Enjoyable stay

We had an amazing room with a beautiful view of the capital of Malta 🇲🇹 Valletta. We were on top 17th floor. It was very nice to have use of a private gym on the premises and also use of a pool day club across street which is connected underground as well called Manta. But you must ask for the towels from the front desk and reserve a daybed ahead of time. If not you can always go for drinks 🍹 which is a good deal 2 for 1 for a couple of hours daily right when the sunset is occurring.

Amazing stay

The staff were very helpful & always polite. I'd like to give a shout out to all the staff in the kitchen & waiting on staff. The variety of breakfast items were exceptional & excellent value.

Very clean with good rooms and location. Staff at reception and breakfast friendly and helpful. Not so much at the spa/pool and the gym was closed all week which was a shame. Music too loud at the pool - not very relaxing. Coffee at breakfast disgusting- surely an essential part of a good hotel breakfast.

I highly recommend this place. The location is excellent, with a great selection of nearby restaurants, including Tora, Manta, Opa!, and Chophouse and a near by Mall. It's also just a five-minute walk to the ferry terminal with easy access to Valletta.The staff were exceptionally professional and welcoming. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The gym was impressive, offering modern equipment, fitness classes, and personal training options.The pool area was another highlight, providing a relaxing atmosphere and stunning views of Valletta.

The hotel was well located, easy access to transportation to get to main attractions. Close to really good dinner options. Their morning buffet was a bit pricey but included a lots of choices. Great gym and spa. The pool area was beautiful, great view .too bad i didn't get to enjoy it, it was too cool for us but if I come back in summer I won't miss it!! The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and spacious. We had some view of Valleta and it was a great sight to wake up every morning!

The room was lovely, the balcony door was very heavy, if you are elderly, you wouldn't be able to open it readily. The pool was good 5 minutes walk through underground corridors and opened 9am to 7pm which is pretty useless if you go out for the day.I would expect 7am to 10pm. The outside of the hotel has bleak grey corporate looking courtyard just paving, no plants or anything homely. But that said it is clean, the rooms are spotless, huge bed with great pillows, brilliant shower, more than enough toiletries and tea coffee etc. Staff were super friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the hotel as prefer to try out the local area which had plenty to offer.

Amazing stay in our Premium sea view room. The hotel facilties were incredible from the Spa to the Gym. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Love this hotel, it’s new and clean and modern. Conveniently located by the biggest shopping mall in Malta, minutes away from ferry to Vletta, many food options right around the corner. Great spa and gym and swimming pool, absolutely love iy
