The Lerryn Hotel

Warm welcome, lovely room with sea view, good breakfast freshly cooked to order, convenient for station and town and very clean and tidy. Even randomly met the owners in a harbourside pub - their son runs the hotel and is the breakfast chef . Truly a lovely family business.

Every thing was just right as it was on my last stay.

All good. Needed a convenient stop for my walk on the South West Coast Path and this fitted the brief by being good value, quiet and walkable.

Everything else was very good but evidence of black mold on ceiling of 2 bathrooms- needs attention

The hotel is in dire need of some TLC. The decor and furnishings are worn and not at all like the photos. Staff were lovely and the breakfast was very good.

Basic but clean and comfortable. Delicious breakfast options but service needs improving. Staff slow to replenish breakfast table and take orders. Had to leave before breakfast arrived on my last day as my lift came before my food.

The Lerryn is a family-run hotel with all that entails, both positive and negative. And there is a lot to like. The hotel is clean, fresh and modern (a substantial revamp in 2014, I believe) with few rough edges. The room had a homely quality that you won't find in a corporate behemoth, and any minor signs of wear were perfectly acceptable. The bed was comfy, the furniture perfectly functional, and the cleaning was excellent. Downstairs, the honesty-based bar was refreshing, and the dining room was very smart. The breakfast was excellent, with particularly fine bacon. So, why the missing fifth star? The devil, as ever, is in the details. Arriving on a gloomy, rainy evening, I found a locked front door and a sign to ring the bell. Ringing the obvious doorbell on the right elicited no response, but after 5 minutes, I spotted the somewhat camouflaged doorbell to the left, which resulted in a pleasant but oily (as in engine oil) young son allowing me entry. We then had a panic as my room keys were missing from the front desk. After a phone call with Dad, we went up to the room to find the keys still in the door. Unfortunately, you don't get a second chance at a first impression. Later in the stay, I had a blown bulb in the bedlight that needed a special order bulb (?), a coffee machine in the room that needed descaling to use and no clear information pack on arrival. All small potatoes, but enough to miss perfection. However, I can definitely recommend the Lerryn for your stay.

The hotel was in a lovely location overlooking the sea. The room was lovely with balcony. The bed was super comfortable with great crisp white sheets. Couldn’t fault the breakfast very tasty and well presented. I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely friendly staff, good to have breakfast included, shower was a bit temperamental but overall the hotel was excellent.
