We had a very disappointing experience at the Hilton Garden Inn in Sudbury. We were in town for my grandfather's funeral, travelling with our two young daughters, both under the age of five. After a long drive, we arrived at the hotel around 11:00 p.m., exhausted and ready to get the kids to bed.
When we checked in, we were told that the only room they had available had a broken air conditioner. This was during a major heat wave, with temperatures around 40°C. There was no way we could safely stay in that room with two small children, especially after paying over $700 for a two-night stay.
What made the situation even more frustrating was how it was handled. No one called us ahead of time to let us know there was an issue, despite clearly knowing the room was uninhabitable. The staff also made no effort to help us find alternative accommodations or offer any meaningful solution. After arriving late at night with two tired children and already dealing with the stress of attending a funeral, we were left to figure everything out on our own.
This level of customer service was incredibly disappointing and far below what I would expect from a Hilton property. I hope the hotel improves how it communicates with guests and handles situations like this in the future so no other family has to go through the same experience.
