The hotel is lovely, the rooms are good, that is unless you have the misfortune to stay in room 8; please don’t. Their site mentions in the ‘directions’ page that it is “very close to the train line”. What it fails to tell you is that this is the main Bangor to Liverpool train line; trains run until midnight and start running again at 5:00am. They run every 20 minutes, and the line is less than 3m from the windows of room 8. At 9:30pm, I went down to Reception to ask when the trains stopped running. They didn’t know, but did offer me their last available room, just as the people who had booked it arrived to check in. I looked at that room, which was incredibly hot, but the bathroom was further to walk to - I have a mobility impairment and use a scooter most of the time, and am unsteady walking. I didn’t want to risk the extra paces, and also felt bad about giving another couple the very noisy room, so said we’d stay where we were. I didn’t realise how much I’d woken until I checked my watch - I’d woken up every time a train passed our window, from 5:00am - trains going in either direction, a few minutes apart. I told the staff when we came down for breakfast that I was exhausted, and had had a dreadful night’s sleep. Pointless. Breakfast was good, but when we came back for lunch with a group of friends, they failed to bring my OH his main course, so he just had a starter and dessert. Also, the ‘accessible’ loo is down 1 steep step, then up 3! Won’t stay there again.
