Good amount of free parking, the room and bathroom were a decent size as well as clean, comfy and well equipped. The shower was nice and powerful. The pub/restaurant itself was decent with nice staff and food. The only point to note is to check times and book for food if needed as there is nothing really around this hotel and Sunday closes early.

Easy and friendly check in. Clean and tidy room. I had a single room and the sink in the bathroom was the size of a shoe box. I am not a breakfast person but I do like coffee. When I asked whether it was possible for me to get morning coffee for my travel mug I was told there was coffee in my room. I had hoped for and was willing to pay for a decent filter coffee as opposed to a sachet of Nescafé. Had burger and fries for evening meal "with salad". Burger was top quality, some fries and a single lettuce leaf for £18. Bit pricey

The hotel is lovely, the rooms are good, that is unless you have the misfortune to stay in room 8; please don’t. Their site mentions in the ‘directions’ page that it is “very close to the train line”. What it fails to tell you is that this is the main Bangor to Liverpool train line; trains run until midnight and start running again at 5:00am. They run every 20 minutes, and the line is less than 3m from the windows of room 8. At 9:30pm, I went down to Reception to ask when the trains stopped running. They didn’t know, but did offer me their last available room, just as the people who had booked it arrived to check in. I looked at that room, which was incredibly hot, but the bathroom was further to walk to - I have a mobility impairment and use a scooter most of the time, and am unsteady walking. I didn’t want to risk the extra paces, and also felt bad about giving another couple the very noisy room, so said we’d stay where we were. I didn’t realise how much I’d woken until I checked my watch - I’d woken up every time a train passed our window, from 5:00am - trains going in either direction, a few minutes apart. I told the staff when we came down for breakfast that I was exhausted, and had had a dreadful night’s sleep. Pointless. Breakfast was good, but when we came back for lunch with a group of friends, they failed to bring my OH his main course, so he just had a starter and dessert. Also, the ‘accessible’ loo is down 1 steep step, then up 3! Won’t stay there again.

Enjoyed the stay. Staff helpful, food was filling and tasty. Only issue that needs to be understood before arrival, is the step stairs to the bedrooms. But didn’t detract from a nice experience.

Pros Lovely property in ideal location. Staff friendly, food was good, plenty of parking, good wifi speed, clean room. Cons Walls were really thin so could hear people snoring in next room and people when they were in the corridor. Bathroom had a musty smell

The slate is a lovely hotel ,cosy and comfortable .the reception is welcoming and clean and there's a lovely log burner in the bar that gives the plase an atmospheric smell. Evening meal was really good and good value for the home cooked food we enjoyed . Breakfast was really good and just started the day perfectly . We recommend to anyone and we'd definitely stay again when visiting Wales .
