Staying at The Alan was a total break from real life in the best possible way. The decor was so entirely me & beautifully industrial but with an artist’s garret edge to it. Staff could not have been more helpful. When I asked for more water they were up within 5mins (you can’t fill the kettle from the basin) & when I said I had had problems the first night with the room being cold they sent a maintenance man up within ten mins who completely took the thermostat apart, repaired it & stood with a thermometer gun thing pointing at the vent til it hit the correct temperature & explained to me how to keep it consistent. Shower was hot and wonderful. I hated to leave.

Good quality hotel in the centre of Manchester and I have stayed here several times. Rooms are spacious and well equipped and the hotel is clean. Good bar area and the breakfast and food in general is good. Staff are friendly and attentive. The “industrial” finish might not suit everyone but I like it! Overall a good quality modern hotel in the centre of Manchester that provides good value for money.

The bed was hard and I didn’t sleep really. I discovered the mattress topper was also not very good and needing to be replaced. I Was quite disappointed as the room was £151.20 for the night. The sink in my room was also cracked all the way through. For a 4 star hotel I’d have expected a lot better rooms especially for the price. The staff on arrival weren’t too friendly either. I won’t be staying again and definitely felt over priced.

The room was terrible, I asked to move rooms, and the staff gave me another room the next room I was given was worse. When pulling back the bed sheets there were stains on the bed. I decided not to stay and moved hotels. I have stayed at this hotel before and the room I stayed in before was very nice. However obviously some of the rooms have not been renovated. I won’t be staying there again or recommending this hotel.

I’d describe this hotel as an upscale hostel. The room had practically no furniture, and nowhere to hang any clothes longer than a shirt (get ready to throw your coats and dresses on the floor I guess). The walls are paper thin and we could hear everything around us including on other floors. The air conditioning unit and fridge in the room made loud and intermittent noises all evening. This hotel is in a great location, but is a victim of prioritising style over substance.

Main issues - We had no hot water for the entire stay (this was also an issue the last time we stayed, so it seems a persistent problem) - There were two fire alarms during the night, midnight and 1am - we got a terrible night sleep - The lifts didn’t work the next day Smaller issues - the room service ordering system over WhatsApp doesn’t work. We waited 30 minutes and our request was still unseen, so we cancelled it - the speaker in the room doesn’t connect

Staff were lovely and friendly through out our stay. The room was clean, a good temperature and the mattress was comfortable. The lighting and art work through out the venue was very well considered. Unfortunately though, our shower didn’t drain away well so it flooded our bathroom each time we used it. It comes down to preference of course, but I found the pillows lumpy and uncomfortable. We found the hand soap/body wash to be very stripping/drying for the skin and the smell of it was way too intense. It couldn’t be helped but a fire alarm went off in the night and affected the electrics so we couldn’t use the lifts. This was very inconvenient especially as I have issues with my back. We did find some of the lights didn't work in the room the morning following the fire alarm too which wasn’t ideal. We could hear every step of our up stairs neighbours too which was not pleasant at all. The ceiling was thin and the floor boards were very creaky. We noticed that there was a weird drain smell about the hotel and outside in the streets. Other guests also mentioned this to us several times. Tried to book parking as soon as we booked the stay with the affiliate code but it was booked up so we did have to spend a fair amount on parking. Overall, a lovely stay but there’s some room for improvement.
