Learning About the History of Angklung

Angklung is a traditional music instrument made of bamboo pieces and made into pipes, then tied together into one frame. To make sound, the player will shake the angklung continuously. There are several types of angklung, namely the Angklung Gubrag, Angklung Buncis, Angklung Bungko, and Angklung Baduy. In the past, this instrument was often played as an encouragement during the war in the Sunda Kingdom. Furthermore, until the colonial period, angklung was still played to encourage the fighters in fighting the invaders. Not many people know about this, and certainly not many of them know that there is value of discipline, passion for cooperation, responsibility, agility and accuracy in this Sundanese musical instrument. In Saung Angklung Udjo, you will have the opportunity to know the history of angklung as traditional music instrument of Sundanese. You will be accompanied by a professional angklung player that will teach you how to play it. You will understand that playing angklung will make you lower your ego because this musical instrument has only one note, which means to make harmonious music, angklung should be played together. Meanwhile, the essence of angklung in this saung bamboo is “alunan rumpun bambu” means the music of a group of bamboos. It means that the angklung will be played more dynamic, energetic, and fun. You also have to understand the mission to get the feeling when playing this musical instrument, which is to preserve the Sundanese culture.
