Kamikochi is located at an altitude of 1,500 meters, and its temperature is about 5 to 10 degrees Celsius lower than that of Matsumoto City (approximately 600 meters above sea level), which is situated at the foot of the mountain. Especially in early spring and autumn, the minimum temperature can sometimes drop below 0 degrees Celsius, and there is occasional snowfall from mid-October to early May, so warm clothing is essential. Even in summer, the minimum temperature can sometimes be below 10 degrees Celsius, so please be sure to bring a jacket. Mountain temperatures are unpredictable, so please bring rain gear and wear comfortable shoes when going for walks.

In the western part of Nagano Prefecture, Kamikochi is a tourist resort and summer resort on the upper reaches of the Azusa River in the southern part of the Hida Mountains.
