While Negeri Sembilan means ‘Nine States’ in English, however, it does not refer to nine separate states. The name itself originates from the nine chiefdoms usually known as ‘luak’ by the locale that was initially established in the region by Minangkabau people from Sumatra who settled in Negeri Sembilan.
