Formally established in 1890, Gordon's is more than just London’s oldest wine bar. It is an institution where literary heavyweight like Rudyard Kipling, the author of The Jungle Book, used to spent his time. To enter, you need to take a narrow set of stairs down and be ready to enter 19th century London: wooden walls covered with old newspaper cuttings, memorabilia, and no signal reception. It is indeed atmospheric, with glimmering candle lights and warm exchange between the patrons. This charming cellar-bar serves an expansive list of wines, sherries, and ports from the barrel, as well as hearty English meals, and choices of cheeses. The best thing: a feast here won't cause you an arm and a leg. Always busy, you're advised to arrive around 16:00 if you want to secure a seat. For fresh air, you can go to the outdoor patio area.
