Leke Leke Waterfall: A Peaceful Jungle Escape in Bali

Traveloka MY
7 min read

Bali has plenty of waterfalls, but Leke Leke Waterfall offers a more intimate experience away from the island's busiest tourist spots. Tucked into the greenery of Tabanan, this narrow cascade is reached by a short jungle walk featuring bamboo bridges and tropical scenery.

Located in Mekarsari, Baturiti, Leke Leke is a good choice for travellers who enjoy nature, photography and quieter outdoor attractions. The waterfall is reached after roughly a 15–20-minute walk from the entrance, making it manageable as part of a wider day trip through Bali's central highlands.

What Makes Leke Leke Worth Visiting?

Leke Leke is not necessarily about size or dramatic adventure. Its appeal comes from the combination of a narrow waterfall, lush surroundings, and a scenic route that makes the journey part of the attraction.

1. A Tall, Narrow Waterfall

Leke Leke has a distinctive single, narrow cascade dropping into a natural pool. The surrounding rock and vegetation give it a secluded appearance. The waterfall height stands at approximately 30 meters (98 feet) tall.

2. A Lush Jungle Cove

The waterfall sits within dense tropical greenery, creating a cool and peaceful setting that feels quite different from Bali's coastal areas.

3. The Trek Is Part of the Experience

The walk from the entrance takes roughly 15–20 minutes. Along the way, visitors pass through a green landscape before reaching the waterfall.

4. Bamboo Bridges Along the Trail

Bamboo bridges add character to the route and provide interesting viewpoints for photographs.

5. Plenty of Photo Opportunities

The waterfall, surrounding rocks, tropical plants, and trail provide several natural photography spots. Leke Leke is also one of Tabanan's photogenic waterfalls.

6. A Natural Pool at the Bottom

Water collects in a natural pool beneath the cascade. Conditions can vary after rainfall, so take care around wet rocks and avoid entering the water when the current is strong.

7. A Greener Side of Bali

Leke Leke's location in the Baturiti highlands puts it among Bali's cooler, greener landscapes, making it a pleasant change from the beaches and busy southern resort areas.

8. Easy to Combine with a Highland Day Trip

Its location near Jatiluwih and the Bedugul area means you can visit Leke Leke as one stop on a broader central Bali itinerary rather than travelling there solely for the waterfall.

Leke Leke Waterfall Location

Leke Leke Waterfall is located in Mekarsari Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency, Bali.

The waterfall sits north of the main tourist areas of southern Bali and is better understood as part of the central Bali highlands circuit. It is also conveniently positioned for travellers visiting Jatiluwih and Bedugul.

From Ubud, the drive generally takes around an hour depending on traffic. From Canggu and the southern resort areas, allow more travel time, particularly during busy periods.

How to Get to Leke Leke Waterfall for Malaysian

For Malaysian travellers, the simplest option is to fly directly from Kuala Lumpur to Bali before continuing by road to the waterfall. Kuala Lumpur–Denpasar is served by non-stop flights, with the flight taking roughly three hours to three hours and 20 minutes depending on the service.

Step 1: Travel Towards Mekarsari and Baturiti

Once you arrive in Bali, arrange a private car, airport transfer, or driver for the journey north towards Mekarsari and Baturiti. This is the easiest option because Leke Leke is in a rural area where public transport is not the most convenient choice.

A private driver is also useful if you plan to visit several attractions on the same day. Instead of booking separate transport for every stop, you can ask the driver to wait while you explore Leke Leke and continue to the next destination.

Step 2: Walk for Around 15-20 Minutes

Once you reach the Leke Leke area, park near the entrance and continue on foot. The trail from the entrance to the waterfall takes roughly 15–20 minutes. The route includes uneven ground and bamboo bridges, so comfortable footwear with good grip is recommended.

Another easy option: join a day tour

If you prefer not to arrange a private driver yourself, Traveloka currently lists a one-day tour covering Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, and Leke Leke Waterfall. The Malaysia-facing listing currently starts from RM 308.90 for two people, including transport, driver, entrance tickets, lunch and mineral water.

This option can be particularly convenient for first-time visitors who want to see several central Bali attractions without working out the route independently.

Things to Do

You do not need a packed activity schedule here. The attraction is better enjoyed at a relaxed pace.

1. Walk through the jungle: Enjoy the greenery and shaded sections along the route.

2. Photograph the waterfall: Look for different compositions from the pool area and surrounding rocks.

3. Cross the bamboo bridges: These are part of the walking experience and make interesting photo backgrounds.

4. Spend time around the natural pool: You can enjoy the cool surroundings, but check the water conditions before getting in.

5. Explore the surrounding landscape: The tropical vegetation and quiet atmosphere are part of Leke Leke's appeal.

6. Combine it with other attractions: Make the waterfall one stop on a wider Tabanan or Bedugul itinerary.

Leke Leke Waterfall Opening Hours and Entrance Fee

Current visitor listings show Leke Leke Waterfall operating daily from around 7.00am to 6.00pm. Recent 2026 travel information puts the entrance fee at approximately IDR 50,000 per person (approximately RM 14), although local rates can change.

It is sensible to carry some Indonesian rupiah for entrance fees and small purchases.

For the waterfall itself, allow around one to two hours. This includes the walk in, time around the waterfall and the return journey. Add more time if you plan to stop for photographs or combine it with nearby attractions.

Travel Destinations Near Leke Leke Waterfall

One of the advantages of visiting Leke Leke is its position within Bali's central highlands. Several major attractions can be combined with the waterfall on the same day.

1. Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

Jatiluwih is one of the most logical additions to a Leke Leke itinerary. The UNESCO-listed cultural landscape is known for its expansive rice terraces and traditional irrigation system. It is roughly a 35-minute drive from Leke Leke, although actual driving distance and time depend on the route.

2. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Located beside Lake Beratan in Bedugul, Ulun Danu Beratan is one of Bali's most recognisable temple landscapes. It is around a 25-minute drive by car from Leke Leke.

3. Nungnung Waterfall

Travellers who want to see another waterfall can consider Nungnung Waterfall, located to the east of Leke Leke. It is known for its much larger cascade and a more demanding staircase route, making it a useful contrast to Leke Leke's shorter walk. It is also about a 30-to-35-minute drive from Leke Leke.

4. Banyumala Twin Waterfall

Further north (a 45-to-55-minute drive), Banyumala Twin Waterfall is another option for waterfall lovers. Its twin cascades and natural pool make it quite different from Leke Leke, although the additional driving time means it is better suited to a longer day trip.

5. Pura Taman Ayun

If you are travelling back towards southern Bali, Pura Taman Ayun in Mengwi can be another cultural stop.

For a straightforward itinerary, Leke Leke + Jatiluwih + Ulun Danu Beratan is particularly practical. Traveloka currently sells a one-day package combining all three, confirming that they can be arranged as one sightseeing route.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season is generally more comfortable for walking because the trail is less likely to be muddy and slippery. However, Bali remains tropical throughout the year, and rainfall can occur even during the drier months.

Morning is a good time to arrive. You can enjoy the cooler conditions, take photographs before the day becomes hotter and continue towards Jatiluwih or Bedugul afterwards.

During periods of heavy rain, be more cautious around the trail and waterfall pool. Water levels and currents can change after rainfall, while wet rocks become significantly more slippery.

It has just 10 rooms with lake or mountain-view balconies, a restaurant serving European/Asian/halal dishes, a picnic area, garden, and outdoor fireplace.
