Indonesia (officially known as the Republic of Indonesia) is an island nation in Southeast Asia, covering an area of 1,904,569 square kilometres with an estimated population of 270.2 million people, making it the fourth most populous country in the world and the most populous Muslim majority country.

It is home to many mesmerising natural attractions. Its vast wilderness also has one of the world's greatest biodiversity. Without a doubt, you will never run out of things to do when you come to Indonesia.

What are the Latest COVID-19 Travel Requirements to Indonesia for Malaysians?

How to Get to Indonesia from Kuala Lumpur?

Main Airports in Indonesia

There are about 683 airports in Indonesia. However, there are three major airports that are considered the busiest in Indonesia: Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Ngurah Rai International Airport and Juanda International Airport that typically serves both local and international travellers.

All three airports are location-dependent:

If you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta, the best destination airport is typically the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport.
If you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Bali, the best destination airport is typically the Ngurah Rai International Airport.
If you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Surabaya, the best destination airport is typically the Juanda International Airport.

Major Airlines Flying from Kuala Lumpur to Indonesia

Lucky for us, there are direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Indonesia. The travel period from Kuala Lumpur to Indonesia, in general, is no longer than two hours.

Typically, the one-way ticket price from Kuala Lumpur to Indonesia (Jakarta) would cost anywhere from MYR 300 to MYR 600 if you book on Traveloka Lifestyle Superapp using airlines such as Jetstar Asia Airways, Scoot and Malaysia Airlines. These would typically come with cabin baggage about 7-10 kilograms for economy class.

Uluwatu Temple

A Balinese Hindu sea temple dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, Uluwatu Temple offers amazing sea views from the height in addition to the architecture.

It is located on top of a 70-meter cliff that is facing the sea.
It is part of the nine prominent temples in Bali inhabited by the Macaque monkeys that would actually take stuff from visitors but can be persuaded by food.

Seminyak

Seminyak is where the island’s most luxurious resorts, villas and spas are located., which is more renowned and crowded.

It is at the southern end of Bali; north of Legian Beach; and nearby Kuta Beach.
It is said to be the most peaceful and less crowded than other nearby beaches.
The beach is suitable for surfing.

Kuta

Also known as Sunset Beach, Kuta is the most prominent beach in Bali, and it feels incomplete to mention Bali without having this beach in the conversation.

Quick info:

The beach is popular for its sunset and sunrise scenery.
You can find accessible accommodation nearby as there are plenty of resorts lined up on the beachside.
First-time travellers to Bali can explore Kuta as their first destination because of its ideal location and not too overwhelming for new travellers.

Lombok

Gili Trawangan

Gili Trawangan is the most developed island among the three Gili islands and also the biggest. About three kilometres long and two kilometres wide, the island is populated by 1,500 residents.

Quick info:

The transportation system is relatively traditional where they still use horse carts and bicycles.
The beach is ideal for snorkelling and diving activities due to its clear waters.
Travellers need to use speedboats or motorised boats to get between the islands.
Nightlife is fantastic here with bars and late-night parties complete with music performances and dance floors.

Mount Rinjani

One of the major attractions on the island, it certainly feels incomplete to come over to Lombok without even trying to go to Mount Rinjani.

It is part of the Mount Rinjani National Park, which covers 41,330 hectares containing a major Wallacea bio-geographical transition zone.

Quick info:

This is where tropical fauna and flora commonly found in Southeast Asia would meet that of Australasia.
It is a popular destination for hikers alike. There are several trekking packages, two days 1-night packages 4 days three-night packages that include going to the summit lake.
The mountain’s elevation is 3,726 meters, it is the second-highest volcano in the country after Mount Kerinci.
Air Kalak Hot Springs is a popular hot spring destination to soothe yourself after a long hike.

Gili Air

The second biggest of the Gili islands after the Gili Trawangan, it offers a serene atmosphere that allows for some privacy and peace of mind.

Quick info:

It is a popular destination for honeymoon couples.
The waters offer the best diving sites in the country due to their clear water, lively coral greens and frequent sightings of turtles and rays.
The main mode of transportation to get around the island is via bicycle or horse-drawn carriages. You will need to use a speedboat or motorised boat to travel between the islands.

Jakarta

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah

Found in East Jakarta, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park is operated by the Yayasan Harapan Kita, a foundation established by Siti Hartinah, the wife of Suharto.

The park comprises five main attractions and two water rides.
It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jakarta.
The park expands to around 100 hectares and displays rich Indonesian cultures, architecture, clothes, dances and traditions.

National Monument

The National Monument that is found in Gambir, Central Jakarta, is an obelisk monument dedicated to the fight and struggle of the Indonesian people to obtain their independence.

The monument and the museum are open daily from 08.00 am until 16.00 pm.
The monument resembles the bloom of the famous Amorphophallus titanum that is native to Indonesia and its people.
