Banting is the administrative centre of Kuala Langat district in southern Selangor, located approximately 50 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur along the Strait of Malacca coastline. It has a long-overlooked status among weekend destinations from KL — most travellers drive straight past Banting heading to Port Dickson or further south. That is a mistake, because the area around Banting has a distinctive combination of history, coastal scenery, outdoor adventure, and one of the best paragliding sites in Selangor. Here are ten things to do in Banting.

Bukit Jugra is one of Selangor's best-known paragliding launch sites, with experienced pilots and high-quality equipment offering tandem flights over a landscape that extends from the Langat River delta to the Strait of Malacca and Carey Island in the distance. Flights start from RM250 per person and provide genuine altitude and duration — this is not a brief hop. The views from the air over the Banting coastline and mangrove forests are remarkable. Rated a perfect 10.0 by previous participants.
Immediately below the paragliding launch site, the Bukit Jugra Lighthouse was built in the 19th century to guide shipping through the Strait of Malacca. The climb to the lighthouse offers panoramic views of the Langat River, the surrounding countryside, and the strait. It is a historical landmark that connects Banting's maritime heritage with the Selangor Sultanate's history, and the viewpoint is accessible without specialist equipment.
Located in Gamuda Cove, Splashmania Waterpark is one of the better waterparks in Greater KL, designed for all ages with water slides, a wave pool, a lazy river called Ravage River, and the Omba King Cove for younger visitors. The flagship Surf Mania wave machine is particularly popular. The Amazonia ship tower with its DJ deck adds a social element. Tickets from RM57 to RM65 per person.
Adjacent to Splashmania, the Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands is a nationally significant wildlife sanctuary combining eco-tourism with adventure activities. Rope courses, ATV rides, archery, fishing, and camping are all available within the sanctuary, which also functions as a natural habitat for resident and migratory bird species. The combination of wetland ecology and active recreation makes it one of the most varied half-day destinations in Selangor.
Find and book the best hotels in Banting and the surrounding Selangor coastal area:
Istana Bandar is a beautifully preserved traditional Malay royal palace that once served as the administrative centre of the Selangor Sultanate before the capital moved to Shah Alam. The building's ornate Malay architecture — elevated on stilts with carved timber details, multi-tiered rooflines, and a distinctive scale — makes it one of the most photogenic heritage buildings in Selangor. Photography of the exterior is the main draw, and the surrounding grounds are accessible to the public.
The Jugra Insitu Museum in the old royal capital of Jugra chronicles the history of Kuala Langat as a former seat of the Selangor Sultanate. Exhibits include photographs, documents, archaeological finds, and artefacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is a compact but well-curated museum that provides genuine historical context for the heritage buildings in the area.
Located on Carey Island, accessible from Banting in under an hour, the Mah Meri Cultural Village offers genuine engagement with the traditions, woodcarving arts, and spiritual practices of the Mah Meri people — one of Peninsular Malaysia's indigenous communities. Guided visits include demonstrations of traditional mask-making and woodcarving, and the village operates as an active community rather than a museum display. It is one of the most respectful and authentic indigenous cultural experiences available in Selangor.
The most accessible beach near Banting, Morib has clean sand, well-maintained facilities, toilet and prayer room amenities, and calm waters suitable for paddling and beach activities. It is a popular weekend destination for families from KL, known for its kitesurfing conditions and reliably good sunsets over the Strait of Malacca. Arrive on weekday mornings for the most peaceful experience.
A quieter alternative to Morib, Kelanang Beach has a more natural, less developed character with mangroves and coastal pine trees providing shade. It is suited to camping, morning bird-watching along the mangrove edge, and peaceful sunset picnicking. Food stalls operate on weekends; on weekdays you will need to bring your own provisions.
An eco-adventure resort at Tadom Hill with accommodation options and a full menu of outdoor activities including bamboo rafting, ATV rides, and rock climbing in a rainforest setting. Suitable for all ages and particularly good for corporate groups or families wanting a structured outdoor activity programme in a scenic natural setting.
