The blessed month of Ramadan Al-Mubarak is always eagerly anticipated by Muslims, not only due to the obligation of fasting but because it is the month of Nuzul Quran. The Nuzul Quran event refers to the momentous occasion of the historical revelation of the Holy Verses of the Qur'an.
What is the meaning of Nuzul Quran? Literally, 'Nuzul' means 'descent' or 'coming down', and 'Al-Quran' means 'the recitation'. Thus, the meaning of Nuzul Al Quran is the descent of the Holy Book of the Qur'an. This revelation began on a blessed night during the month of Ramadan.
This great event took place on the 17th of Ramadan, approximately 13 years before the Hijra (migration). Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was then in uzlah (seclusion for worship) in the Cave of Hira', located in the Jabal Nur mountains near Mecca.
This event marks the beginning of the Islamic message and the establishment of the Qur'an as huda (guidance) and furqan (the criterion distinguishing right from wrong).
Nuzul Quran Day is traditionally celebrated on the 17th of Ramadan every year. This date is very important for Muslims to reflect and strengthen their relationship with Kitabullah.
