The borders are officially open, and we are officially due for some getaway after the eventful two years in the depth of quarantine and travel restrictions. Goodbye, 2022, we hope never to see you again. Hello, 2023, it is time to do some revenge travel!

If you missed the boat on this, we have a lot - A LOT of long weekends and holidays coming up this year. Hello, Chinese New Year holiday, anyone? Malaysia loves its holidays, and we are also here for it!

So, to cater to the travel hunger of everyone that has been cooped up, Traveloka is enlightening you with a Traveloka Cuti Sana-Sini - discount campaign on steroids! This and other ways to score cool cheap flight deals out there.

Oh, we’re talking about how you can find last-minute flight deals out there if you haven’t gotten it by now. Let’s gooo!

What Kind of Flights is Available for Last-Minute Booking?

Both! It is not far-fetched to think that you can get both domestic and/or international flight tickets a week or even three days before your travel date. The question is, how do you find these hidden gems?

For domestic flights, it’s pretty easy than international, we might assume. On the one hand, a lot of people are gunning for international travel because, well, it’s international travel, what more can you say? So, the room for domestic travel opens up quite often.

This is one of the secret doors that allows you to explore the wonders of Malaysia. Trust us, it is a lot. Malaysia has a lot of precious sites that are equally enticing as places overseas. Have you ever been to the top of the world at the Penang Sky Walk or Mount Kinabalu in Sarawak? It is one of those things that you should never miss experiencing.

Moving to international travel, although the demand is high, one might think there is no way in heaven or the opposite that there are flight tickets available at such short notice - not the case entirely.

You can still get last-minute booking throughs when your eye for those red-eye flights or odd-hour timeframe. It may be a pain to stay up for those late-night flights, but eyes on the prize, my friend.

Where Can We Get Last-Minute Cheap Flights?

Would it be superficial if we said, “anywhere”? In hindsight, it is true. You can get a lot of last-minute bookings across various travel agencies, whether online or offline. You can even get them straight from the airline companies themselves, they do have last-minute offers from time to time.

But if you really want the heart of it, keep an eye out for flash sales or mega sales campaigns. They always give out the best deals - not just for last-minute planning! Shameless plug here: Traveloka’s latest campaign to promote domestic travel gives you the exact benefit worth every penny.

They are providing cheap of everything; the cheapest fare for KLIA Express is as low as MYR 49 per pax; coupon discounts up to MYR 200 with Malaysia Airlines; the 20% is ending soon! From the campaign itself, you can also get good discounts for hotel bookings as well. That is a pretty good deal, no?

To save you the trouble, below is the list of domestic destinations you can fly to if you are looking for that last-minute nail on the map:

Kuala Lumpur to Penang
Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi
Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu
Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu
Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu
Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bharu

What Documents are Required for Domestic Travel?

As a little bonus info while we’re on the subject. Now, we shall not cover the necessary documents for international travel because it is pretty well-known now what they are. Not to mention, each country is especially different post-pandemic and listing out all documents here will make you miss your Chinese New Year holiday planning. Let’s #SupportLokal and go domestic!

Domestic travel is not as complicated as international travel, that is one thing we can agree on. The main thing you need for your travels, regardless if you are purchasing a flight ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, Kuala Lumpur to Kuching flights or even any cheap flights to Langkawi (plenty, by the way, and when we say cheap, we meant cheap), is first and foremost, your identification card (or passport if you are an expatriate here in Malaysia).

Your ID (MyKad and/or MyKid) is your golden ticket to getting through the domestic borders. You don’t have that, I’m afraid the best place to spend the holiday is in front of the television, watching Netflix.

Next are, of course, your booking details. You can have it in either digital or paper form. Both are accepted on all airlines provided, including Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, Firefly, Malindo Air and many more. It is absolutely important to make sure your details are aligned with your identification card, especially the traveler details. You don’t want to get held up for some typos in your papers.

Hence, even though you are scoring some good last-minute deals out there, you have to make sure all the necessary documents to travel are complete.

Last-minute plans may seem unorganised planning, but it bears some good omens as well - for one, you get tons of discounts (like our campaign - another shameless plug) and second, you will never run out of options to choose from. Have a lovely holiday, people!
