What can I add - it's the fabled Cathay Hotel (2.0), celebrating a bygone age with amazing staff, design, and service. Yes, it's pricey, but this is among the world's most interesting hotels and just staying there is an experience. It's beautiful and bold: more than a hotel, it's a worked example of everything travel should be. And because it's a recreation rather than the 1930s original, it's also modern and spotless, with old-school service like turn-down that just feels ... special. Hotels are usually just somewhere to sleep for me, but this one is far more. A wonderful place I'll always return to.

I recently stayed at the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai and had a wonderful experience overall. The location is absolutely perfect — right on the Bund — making it easy to explore the city. The service was excellent from start to finish, and the hotel’s classic, high-end décor really adds to the charm. The rooms were spotless, and the food was consistently great.
One detail worth mentioning: the bedroom has double-layer windows, making it extremely quiet and comfortable for sleeping. However, the living room only has single-layer windows, so the traffic noise is quite noticeable. It was noisy enough that spending time in the living room wasn’t very relaxing.
Aside from that, it’s a beautiful hotel with exceptional service, and I would still recommend it — especially if you plan to spend most of your time in the bedroom area.
