This is the second time we have stayed here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The indoor and outdoor onsen is incredible. The ocean views from the rooms are spectacular. Everyday there is a new sample treat to try.

My spouse and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Izukyu! I'm already planning to come back later in the summer. My Japanese is limited so we really appreciated the staff doing their best to explain policies in English. We stayed in a Japanese style room, it was huge and had everything we needed and more - and the view of the ocean was fantastic! We also took advantage of the private onsen, highly recommend. Buffet breakfast had a ton of great options, and we appreciated how large the dining room was. There is a 7/11 next door and the beautiful beach is right across the street! I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in this area!

The hot springs were really good. The hotel itself seemed a little dated. The restaurant was only available if you reserved in advance. The other restaurant/bar was closed.

The hotel was fine and reasonably priced. Gift shop was of decent size, the staff friendly, the grounds decently kept, and we were able to experience the many aspects of Shirahama on foot. One thing of note was the choice the Izukyu hotel made not to enforce the ancient and archaic tattoo policy surrounding pool use that so many hotels in Japan still retain to this day. Izukyu allowed myself, a foreigner, and even Japanese with tattoos in the pool and pool area, showing their dedication to Articles 11, 14, 19, 21, and 98 of the Japanese Constitution, when so many other hotels choose not to evolve to fit modern times. Tattoos or not, customers mean money, and Hotel Izukyu has the wisdom to recognize this, and not to discriminate against them for their personal choices or dampen their experience while visiting their establishment. Thanks for setting an example. Would go again.

The room is larger than typical Japanese hotels. Convenience store is located just front of the entrance. The property has nice & big hot spring. The free bus services are available from / to Izukyu Shimoda station. They can also stop at on the way between the places. The ocean View from the hotel room is just amazing.

This property is conveniently located right in front of Shirahama beach. The staff was great. However, the tatami rooms have an unpleasant odor and are in dire need of a remodel.

The package listed in hotel.com dies not include dinner option and there are no restaurant nearby. Hence dining choice is limited. The kaiseki dinner option is only provided to guest who book through their website directly. I ask for addin dinner but was rejected citing only voucher only.

The hotel was mostly empty (traveling during COVID and the rainy season), so there weren’t many other people there. But the staff were super friendly, and when we checked in, not speaking any Japanese, they made sure to answer all of our questions. A word of warning about the breakfast - if you like fish - you’ll be fine! I’m a vegetarian, so there wasn’t as much for me - but that being said, I had two bowls of rice, two fried eggs, two croissants ..! I was not hungry when we left. I was told that the coffee was bad, but not a coffee drinker myself, I didn’t notice. However, we only did the 1500+ yen breakfast once. The 7-11 at the bottom of the hill provided for the other breakfasts. Beach access is very easy! You can even access the beach from 8-5 from the pool area. The shirahama beach is a short walk across the street (make sure you check on the shrine at the far end). The pool was COLD in early July, but I’m sure it’ll heat up through the season. The onsen was also lovely! Make sure you check out the outside one! (The showers in the rooms are … very old and basic so I recommend the onsen for the better water temperature and pressure!)

Booked hotel with outside pool but one day before our stay got email from hotel that they ended it instead of pool view no water lot of cleaners inside hole. Old hotel, early check out, no channels in TV, hard heavy pillows made by small hard balls. Onsen no view. + Free shuttle to station, convenient stores around and on the beach directly, good location

Great location, very nice staff. Clean room, immaculate grounds, beautiful view of the ocean. Lovely, tattoo friendly onsen. Only thing was the foul smell on the 4th floor where we stayed. I think it’s from the carpet that was probably installed in 1982. My friend and I ventured up to sniff the 6th floor, and it was obviously recently renovated and did not smell.

We stayed in a Japanese style room on the top floor of the hotel overlooking the hotel pool and Shirahama Beach. Great view! The decor and facilities of the hotel are a bit outdated, but remain clean. Staff speak just a little English. The onsens (indoor and outdoor) are big given the size of the hotel. I don't know what it is like in the summer when it's very busy, but at this time of the year (end of October), I almost had the entire onsen to myself every time I went. i especially enjoyed the outdoor one at night with the moon in the sky. We had half board with us (recommended if you don't have a car), the meals are not bad: breakfast buffet same variety -- with both western and Japanese items -- each morning, dinner a combination of served and self-served. During meals, the big screen in the cafeteria-style dining room shows slides of sights in Isu, which is quite interesting. Not much, except for a convenience store at the access road to the hotel, in the area. 2 Tokai bus stops are nearby to take you to and from downtown Shimoda, but the schedules are more like every hour. The hotel provides shuttle service to Shimoda Station in the morning only. The Tokai bus that I mentioned above actually travel between Shuzenji and Shimoda. You can get a 2 or 3 day pass that allows unlimited travel in the area served by the company, nt bad if you are not driving.
