Very enjoyable stay at the Bayview Goergetown hotel Penang. I stayed on the 12th floor. The view from the big room window was pretty frightening. View of the city, the park, until the ships that sail near the harbor are clearly visible, the mountain coastline can all be enjoyed. Even from the bed in the room. Strategic location near culinary beautiful buildings, museum shops. I love it.

Overview of Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang

Standing proudly on historic Lebuh Farquhar,

Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang

is a well-established 4-star property that places guests at the very doorstep of one of Southeast Asia's most captivating heritage districts. With 340 tastefully appointed rooms and suites spread across its modern tower, this hotel has long been a trusted choice for leisure travellers, families, and business guests seeking a comfortable base in the heart of George Town. Its address on Farquhar Street — one of the oldest roads on Penang Island — means that colonial mansions, vibrant street art, aromatic hawker stalls, and centuries-old temples are all within easy walking distance.

What truly sets

Bayview Georgetown Penang

apart from neighbouring hotels is its iconic rooftop. The Three Sixty Revolving Restaurant and Sky Bar, perched on Level 16, is the only revolving restaurant in Penang, offering unobstructed 360-degree panoramas of Georgetown's heritage rooftops, the Penang Strait, and the distant mainland. Whether you are sipping a sunset cocktail or enjoying the evening buffet as the dining room slowly rotates, the experience is genuinely unique to this property. Combined with a generous outdoor pool deck, a well-equipped fitness centre, and three distinct dining outlets, the hotel delivers a remarkably complete stay without ever needing to leave the premises.

Guests at

Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang George Town

consistently praise the warm Malaysian hospitality, the convenience of the central location, and the excellent value for a 4-star property in a UNESCO World Heritage zone. Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is at 12:00, giving visitors a relaxed start to their departure day — particularly useful for those planning a final morning stroll through Georgetown's atmospheric lanes before heading to the airport.

Room Types at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang

Across its 340 rooms and suites, Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang offers four distinct categories designed to suit different travel needs and budgets. Every room features complimentary high-speed WiFi, individually controlled air conditioning, a flat-screen television with satellite channels, a minibar, tea and coffee-making facilities, an in-room electronic safe, and 24-hour room service. The décor throughout follows a calming palette of neutral tones, and the generously sized windows are a hallmark of the property, flooding each room with natural light and offering views that range from Georgetown's museum-lined streets to the sparkling waters of the Straits of Malacca.

Superior Room

The Superior Room is the hotel's entry-level category, offering a cosy yet well-designed 22 square metres of living space. Guests can choose between a king-size bed or a twin configuration with two single beds, making this room suitable for couples, solo travellers, or friends travelling together. Maximum occupancy is two adults. The en-suite bathroom features a bathtub, complimentary toiletries, and a hairdryer. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow ample daylight, and many Superior Rooms face east — perfect for watching the sunrise over the Penang mainland. Others offer angled views of the Straits of Malacca or Georgetown's historic streetscape. Additional in-room amenities include a large work desk, an iron with ironing board, and blackout curtains for a restful night's sleep. The Superior Room represents a solid choice for travellers who plan to spend most of their time exploring the city and want a comfortable, affordable retreat to return to each evening.

Deluxe Room

Stepping up in both space and refinement, the Deluxe Room offers between 33 and 40 square metres — nearly double the footprint of the Superior category. This additional room allows for a dedicated seating area, giving guests space to unwind or catch up on work without being confined to the bed. Bed configurations include a king-size bed or twin beds, and the room accommodates up to two adults. The en-suite bathroom is fitted with a shower, complimentary toiletries, and modern fixtures. Oversized windows are a defining feature here, and many Deluxe Rooms provide sweeping views over Georgetown's colonial-era buildings and leafy streetscapes. The neutral colour scheme, blackout curtains, and quality bedding ensure a restful stay, while the minibar, electric kettle, and daily housekeeping add everyday convenience. For guests who appreciate having a little extra elbow room without moving up to a suite, the Deluxe Room strikes an ideal balance of comfort and value at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang.

Suite

The Suite at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang is a spacious 65-square-metre retreat designed for guests who desire a genuine home-away-from-home experience. The layout is divided into a separate living area — complete with a plush sofa, armchairs, and a dining table — and a refined bedroom furnished with a luxurious king-size bed. This separation of spaces makes the Suite particularly appealing for business travellers who need to host small in-room meetings, or for couples celebrating a special occasion who want the added luxury of a private lounge. The suite features an LCD television, complimentary WiFi, tea and coffee-making facilities, and individually controlled air conditioning. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame expansive views of Georgetown or the sea, adding to the sense of grandeur. If you are looking for the most premium accommodation that Bayview Georgetown Penang has to offer, the Suite delivers a noticeably elevated experience.

Family Suite

Designed with larger groups in mind, the Family Suite provides a generous 46 square metres of living space configured to comfortably sleep two adults and two children. The room features a king-size bed alongside two single beds, removing the need for cots or rollaway beds and giving every family member their own proper sleeping arrangement. The en-suite bathroom includes both a bathtub and a separate shower — a practical touch that parents of young children will appreciate. Large windows open up views across the northeastern corner of Penang Island towards the Straits of Malacca, ensuring the room feels bright and airy throughout the day. Standard amenities mirror the rest of the hotel, with complimentary WiFi, an LCD television, a minibar, and tea and coffee facilities all included. The Family Suite's thoughtful layout and ample floor space make it one of the most practical family-friendly options in the Georgetown heritage area.

Facilities and Amenities

The outdoor pool area, located on Level 4 of the hotel, is one of the standout features of Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang. A spacious sun terrace is home to two swimming pools — a main pool for adults and a dedicated children's pool with stepped access at both ends for added safety. An open-air hot tub sits alongside the pools, offering a soothing soak with pleasant views of the surrounding cityscape. The terrace is flanked by shady palm trees and furnished with comfortable sun loungers, creating a genuinely relaxing tropical setting that feels like an escape from the bustle of Georgetown's streets just below.

One floor above, on Level 5, the hotel's fitness centre overlooks the pool deck. The gym is equipped with treadmills, a stationary bicycle, and an elliptical machine, catering to guests who wish to maintain their exercise routine while travelling. Spa therapy services are also available for an additional charge, providing a convenient option for guests seeking massage or wellness treatments without leaving the property.

Complimentary covered parking is provided on a first-come, first-served basis — a notable perk in Georgetown, where street parking can be limited and competitive. Free high-speed WiFi extends throughout all guest rooms and public areas, ensuring seamless connectivity whether you are working from the lobby or streaming entertainment in your room. Additional hotel services include dry cleaning and laundry, a 24-hour front desk, a concierge service, and an elegant ballroom supported by eight function rooms equipped with modern audio-visual technology for meetings, conferences, and celebrations.

Location and Getting There

Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang occupies a prime position at 25-A Lebuh Farquhar, right in the heart of George Town's UNESCO World Heritage Core Zone. This historic street runs through the cultural centre of the city, meaning that many of Penang's most celebrated landmarks are literally on the hotel's doorstep. The iconic Cheong Fatt Tze Blue Mansion is roughly a five-minute walk away, while the Penang State Museum and Art Gallery sits just 450 metres from the hotel entrance. Within one kilometre, guests can reach the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Little India, and the Wonderfood Museum. The ornate Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yin Teng) and the Sri Mahamariamman Temple in Little India are both comfortably within walking distance, as is the famous Komtar tower, located approximately 1.4 kilometres to the southwest.

For those arriving by air, Penang International Airport is roughly 19 kilometres south of the hotel. The drive takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic conditions, and travellers can reach the hotel by airport limousine, metered taxi, or Grab ride-hailing service for approximately RM 26 to RM 50. The Penang Ferry Terminal at Weld Quay, connecting the island to Butterworth on the mainland, is within walking distance of the hotel — a convenient option for guests arriving by rail via KTM Komuter or ETS train services to Butterworth station. A hop-on, hop-off city tour bus stop is also situated nearby, offering an easy way to explore Georgetown's wider attractions without the hassle of navigating unfamiliar roads. The hotel's central location and complimentary parking further simplify travel for guests arriving by car via the Penang Bridge.

Dining at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang

The hotel is home to three distinct dining and drinking venues, each offering a different atmosphere and culinary focus.

Kopitiam

, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant, is a bright and welcoming space featuring large murals, marble-topped tables, and an open layout that captures the spirit of a traditional Malaysian coffee house. Breakfast service begins at 06:30 with a generous buffet spread that ranges from a full English breakfast and continental European selections to beloved Asian morning staples such as roti canai, nasi lemak, and congee. For lunch and dinner, Kopitiam offers a menu that blends local favourites — including classic Malay fish curries and aromatic green curries — with familiar Western dishes, making it easy for every member of a travelling group to find something satisfying.

The true showpiece of dining at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang is the

Three Sixty Revolving Restaurant and Sky Bar

, located on Level 16. As the only revolving restaurant in Penang, it completes a full 360-degree rotation approximately once per hour during the evening service from 19:00 to 22:00, treating diners to ever-changing panoramic views of Georgetown's twinkling heritage skyline, the Penang Strait, and the distant mountains of the mainland. The restaurant serves "The Best of Penang Buffet" each evening, showcasing a carefully curated selection of international and regional dishes. The adjacent open-air Sky Bar extends the experience with crafted cocktails, cold beers, and live music, operating from 16:00 to 01:00 on weekdays and Sundays, and until 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. It is, without question, one of the finest rooftop venues in Penang.

The

Lobby Lounge

rounds out the hotel's food and beverage offerings with a more relaxed setting. During the day, it serves light snacks and beverages in a comfortable lounge environment. As evening approaches, the mood shifts with live music performances and a selection of cocktails, making it a pleasant spot for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap before retiring to your room. Beyond the hotel itself, Georgetown's legendary street food scene is right outside the door — famous hawker centres like New Lane and Chulia Street are within easy reach for guests eager to sample char kway teow, assam laksa, and other iconic Penang dishes.

Why Stay at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang

Unbeatable heritage location.

Few hotels in Georgetown can match the sheer convenience of the Bayview's Lebuh Farquhar address. Positioned within the UNESCO World Heritage Core Zone, you are steps away from world-class street art, centuries-old clan jetties, museums, and temples. Sightseeing requires nothing more than a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

The only revolving restaurant in Penang.

The Three Sixty Revolving Restaurant is a genuinely unique experience that you simply cannot replicate at any other hotel on the island. Watching Georgetown slowly rotate beneath you as you dine on a panoramic buffet is a memory that stays with travellers long after they return home.

Excellent family-friendly facilities.

With a dedicated children's pool, spacious Family Suites accommodating up to two adults and two children, and an all-day restaurant serving both Asian and Western cuisines, Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang is particularly well-suited to families travelling with young children. The hotel's central location also means shorter taxi rides and less time spent in transit with restless little ones.

Complimentary parking in the heritage zone.

Georgetown's historic streets were not designed for modern traffic volumes, and parking can be a genuine challenge. The hotel's complimentary covered parking removes this stress entirely for guests arriving by car, saving both time and money compared to using paid public car parks in the area.

Solid 4-star value.

Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang delivers a well-rounded 4-star experience — spacious rooms, multiple dining options, a pool, gym, and prime location — at rates that consistently represent good value within Penang's competitive hotel market. It is a property where you can enjoy genuine comfort without overstretching your travel budget.

Tips for Booking Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang

Book early for peak periods.

Georgetown is a year-round destination, but hotel demand spikes noticeably during Malaysian school holidays, Chinese New Year, the George Town Festival (typically July to August), and the December holiday season. If your travel dates coincide with any of these periods, booking your room at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang well in advance — ideally four to six weeks ahead — will help secure your preferred room type and the best available rate on Traveloka.

Request a higher floor for the best views.

When making your reservation, consider adding a special request for a higher-floor room. The upper floors of the hotel offer more expansive views of Georgetown's heritage rooftops and the Straits of Malacca, and the distance from street level also means a quieter night's sleep. East-facing rooms are ideal for sunrise lovers, while sea-facing rooms provide beautiful evening light.

Choose the right room for your group.

Solo travellers and couples will find the Superior Room perfectly adequate for a heritage city break, while those who prefer more living space should opt for the Deluxe Room. The Family Suite is purpose-built for families of up to four, with proper beds for children rather than makeshift arrangements. For special occasions or extended stays, the 65-square-metre Suite offers a separate lounge that makes a real difference to day-to-day comfort.

Do not miss dinner at Three Sixty.

Even if you plan to eat most of your meals at Georgetown's legendary hawker stalls, set aside at least one evening for the Three Sixty Revolving Restaurant. The combination of the revolving dining room, the panoramic views, and the evening buffet makes it a highlight of any Penang trip. Arriving around sunset — typically between 19:00 and 19:30 — ensures you experience both the golden-hour light and the city illuminating after dark.

Take advantage of complimentary parking.

If you are renting a car to explore the wider island — visiting Penang National Park, Balik Pulau, or the Tropical Spice Garden, for example — the hotel's free covered parking is a significant benefit. Be aware that spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so returning to the hotel before late evening gives you the best chance of securing a spot. For day trips within Georgetown itself, walking is almost always the most enjoyable and efficient way to get around.

Compare rates and bundle deals on Traveloka.

Rates at Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang can vary depending on the season, day of the week, and how far in advance you book. Checking Traveloka for bundled flight-and-hotel packages or limited-time promotions can often unlock additional savings, particularly for stays of three nights or more. Flexible travellers who can shift their dates by a day or two will frequently find meaningful differences in pricing between midweek and weekend stays.

Bathroom contained mould on many fixtures and fittings. The first room we were shown smelled of mould. The second room wasnt any better but they changed the shower curtain. The towels started smelling as soon as water touched them. I had to ask them to be changed. There was no hand towel. The bed sheets had holes in it. The shower over the bath was not working properly. I think to call it a shower is exaggerating the definition. Suffice to say will NOT be booking a stay at Bayview hotel Georgetown again.

The hotel has a great location, it’s close to all the key landmarks in Georgetown, around bars, restaurants, etc. However, the rooms are definitely not in good condition with issues like the shower head being broken among others. Staff are nice and it’s a decent place to stay for a short trip.

Hotel is posh in the reception area, but really old and outdated rooms. Very misleading photos. We booked a room, but when we got there, the room was tiny, and so old, it felt like someone died in it. We asked to be moved to another room. They charged extra to be moved to a room they considered better but was only slightly bigger. It has the same dated, stale smell and energy. The room was booked and paid through an online platform, and we were quoted an extra $5 that needed to be paid at the property for tax as part of the listing. But when we got there, it was almost $50 more. They had a sign on the counter explaining the tax act, which was fine, but was not advertised as part of the listing, so quite abit additional to be paid with lack of transparency. The listing could have been more transparent with the taxes and per night additional charges or include as part of room rate. Don't mislead the price, as people using booking apps are usually looking for a good deal. I wouldn't recommend the hotel.

The hotel has a great location, it’s close to all the key landmarks in Georgetown, around bars, restaurants, etc. However, the rooms are definitely not in good condition with issues like the shower head being broken among others. Staff are nice and it’s a decent place to stay for a short trip.

No not the staff, the staff was friendly but the rooms in this hotel out dated. The room carpet was flirty and musty. The bathroom ceiling has mould. Room not clean and the seats were very flightly. The room was unpleasant the picture on your site is not a true reflection. Also the room is poorly venetialat

The room was cleaned daily, beds well made but only bath towels were given and had to asked for hand towels daily, would be nice that hand towels were given daily. TV programs isn't that superb and the picture resolution was grainy and unclear. Would I want to come back to stay again...maybe, unless the rectifications were done.
