Overall this is a super hotel in a great location - next to the river and right in the older part of Melaka. The staff are excellent. There are a couple of minor 'howevers' from our 4 night stay: the bar wasn't open at all; and the restaurant was focused entirely on providing iftar buffet suppers. But, when, on 2 of the nights we stayed, we explained that we were staying in the hotel and wanted to eat in the restaurant (from the a la carte menu), the restaurant staff bent over backwards to accommodate us, even though this must have caused then significant inconvenience. We were happy, but it was unfortunate that the limitations with the restaurant and the bar were not communicated at the time of booking, so that we could either have decided to accept them or to book a different hotel.

Overview of Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel

Nestled on the banks of the historic Melaka River, Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel is a distinguished 5-star boutique property that brings Mediterranean-inspired elegance to the heart of Malaysia's most storied city. With just 66 rooms spread across its intimate riverside grounds at 88 Jalan Kota Laksamana, Casa Del Rio offers a level of personalised service and refined luxury that larger hotels simply cannot replicate. Every detail, from the terracotta-hued architecture to the lush courtyard gardens, has been thoughtfully designed to create an atmosphere of quiet sophistication along one of Southeast Asia's most culturally rich waterways.

What sets Casa Del Rio apart is its extraordinary sense of place. The hotel sits within Melaka's UNESCO World Heritage zone, mere steps from iconic landmarks such as Jonker Street, Christ Church, and The Stadthuys. Yet the moment you step through its entrance, you are transported into a tranquil riverside sanctuary far removed from the bustle of the old town. Split-level rooms with hardwood floors and private balconies open out to views of the gently flowing Melaka River or the hotel's own landscaped Lago courtyard, giving every guest a personal connection to the surroundings.

Whether you are visiting Melaka for a romantic weekend escape, a family heritage holiday, or a special celebration, Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel delivers an experience that is both luxurious and deeply rooted in local character. From the rooftop infinity pool overlooking the city skyline to the indulgent treatments at the on-site Satkara Spa, every facility has been curated to ensure guests leave feeling genuinely refreshed. Check-in begins at 15:00, and check-out is at 12:00, allowing you a leisurely final morning before departing this riverside haven.

Room Types at Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel

All rooms and suites at Casa Del Rio are generously proportioned, with a minimum of 50 square metres of living space. Every accommodation features split-level design, dedicated dressing areas, marble-lined bathrooms, and private balconies — a standard of spaciousness that is exceptional for a boutique property of this size. Complimentary high-speed WiFi, flat-screen televisions with satellite channels, coffee and tea making facilities, a minibar, and an iPod docking station are provided in every room category.

Deluxe Room

The Deluxe Room at Casa Del Rio spans a generous 50 square metres and is available in two orientations: Lago View, overlooking the hotel's tranquil central courtyard, or River View, offering a picturesque outlook across the Melaka River. The Mediterranean-inspired décor features warm-toned hardwood floors and tasteful furnishings that create a welcoming residential feel. The split-level layout separates the sleeping area from a comfortable lounge space, while the four-point marble-lined bathroom includes both a soaking bathtub and a walk-in rain shower. A private balcony allows you to enjoy the views at your own pace, whether sipping morning coffee or watching the river cruise boats glide past at dusk. The Deluxe Room comfortably accommodates two adults and is ideal for couples or solo travellers seeking a refined riverside retreat.

Studio King Room

The Studio King Room offers approximately 60 square metres of living space — 10 square metres more than the Deluxe Room — thanks to an additional furnished area featuring a plush day bed. This extra space makes it a superb choice for guests who appreciate room to spread out, or for small families travelling with a young child. Bedding options include a king-sized bed or a Hollywood Twin configuration with two adjoining single beds. Like all rooms at Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel, the Studio King comes with a private balcony, a marble bathroom with separate bathtub and shower, and full in-room amenities including air conditioning, a minibar, and satellite television. River-facing Studio King Rooms are particularly sought after for their unobstructed views of the waterfront promenade.

2-Bedroom River Suite

Spanning 109 square metres, the 2-Bedroom River Suite is designed for families or small groups who require both space and privacy. The master bedroom is furnished with a king-sized bed and enjoys its own en-suite bathroom, while the second bedroom features a queen-sized bed. A shared living area connects the two bedrooms, providing a comfortable gathering space for the whole party. The suite's generous proportions and dual-bedroom layout make it one of the most practical luxury options in Melaka for families with older children or couples travelling together.

2-Bedroom Cheng Ho Suite

Named after the legendary Chinese admiral who sailed from Melaka's shores, the 2-Bedroom Cheng Ho Suite is an expansive 131-square-metre residence that commands stunning views over the Melaka River and the historic St. Paul's Hill beyond. The master bedroom features a king-sized bed with a full en-suite marble bathroom, while the guest bedroom is fitted with twin beds and has access to a shared shower-bath. A separate living area provides an elegant space for relaxation, furnished with comfortable seating and a dining area. The Cheng Ho Suite is an exceptional choice for guests celebrating a special occasion or those who simply desire the finest accommodation at Casa Del Rio without stepping up to the Presidential Suite.

2-Bedroom Melaka Suite

The 2-Bedroom Melaka Suite is arguably the hotel's most distinctive accommodation. This split-level suite features a master bedroom with a stylish king-sized bed and a guest bedroom with twin beds, connected by a generous living area. What truly sets it apart, however, is the wraparound private outdoor courtyard complete with a cold-water jacuzzi and an intimate alfresco dining area. This secluded outdoor space transforms the suite into a private sanctuary — perfect for guests who wish to enjoy the tropical Malaysian climate in complete privacy. The Melaka Suite is particularly popular with honeymooners and guests marking anniversaries or milestone celebrations.

Presidential Suite

The crowning jewel of Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel, the Presidential Suite encompasses a lavish 192 square metres of impeccably designed living space. The extra-large master bedroom features a luxurious long bathtub and premium bed linens, while the split-level layout incorporates a comfortable study, a separate formal dining area, and an expansive lounge. A furnished entrance hallway and private patio complete the residence, delivering a sense of grandeur that is unmatched in Melaka's hospitality landscape. Breathtaking panoramic views sweep across the river, the old town, and the surrounding hills, making this suite the definitive address for VIP guests and those seeking the ultimate in five-star indulgence.

Facilities and Amenities

The rooftop infinity pool is one of the most celebrated features of Casa Del Rio. The pool complex includes a 20-metre infinity lap pool, a relaxed sunset pool adjacent to the rooftop bar, and a dedicated children's pool area — ensuring that guests of all ages can enjoy the water safely. Sun loungers and shaded cabanas surround the pool deck, which offers sweeping views across Melaka's skyline. It is a particularly magical spot at golden hour, when the heritage rooftops and minarets are bathed in warm light.

The Satkara Spa provides a comprehensive menu of body and facial treatments inspired by both global wellness traditions and the essence of traditional Malay hospitality. Guests are welcomed with complimentary hot and cold beverages before their treatments, which range from full-body massages and aromatherapy sessions to rejuvenating facials. A sauna and beauty centre are also available on-site for guests seeking additional pampering. The spa's serene riverside setting enhances the sense of relaxation, making it a must-visit during any stay.

Complimentary high-speed WiFi is available throughout the hotel, including all guest rooms and public areas. A library stocked with reading material offers a quiet retreat for bookworms, while 24-hour room service ensures that dining is available at any hour. The hotel provides complimentary parking for guests arriving by car, as well as a free shuttle service to nearby shopping centres and local sightseeing areas — a thoughtful convenience that makes exploring Melaka effortless.

Location and Getting There

Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel enjoys a prestigious address at 88 Jalan Kota Laksamana, in the very heart of Melaka's UNESCO World Heritage Core Zone. The hotel is situated directly on the banks of the Melaka River, placing guests within a two-minute walk of the famed Jonker Street — Melaka's most popular thoroughfare for antique shopping, street food, and the vibrant Friday and Saturday night market. Other major heritage attractions, including Christ Church, The Stadthuys at Red Square, A Famosa fortress, and St. Paul's Church on the hilltop, are all comfortably reachable on foot within five to ten minutes.

The Melaka River Cruise boarding jetty at Quayside is located just 150 metres from the hotel entrance, allowing guests to embark on the scenic 45-minute boat ride along the illuminated river without any hassle. The Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum, one of Melaka's most important cultural institutions, is also within a short stroll, as is the Straits Chinese Jewellery Museum.

Malacca International Airport is located approximately 10 kilometres south of the hotel, a journey of around 25 minutes by car depending on traffic. For guests arriving from Kuala Lumpur, Melaka is accessible via the North-South Expressway in roughly two hours by private vehicle. The Melaka Sentral bus terminal, which receives intercity coaches from across Peninsular Malaysia, is approximately 5 kilometres from the hotel, and taxis or ride-hailing services such as Grab are readily available for the short transfer, costing from approximately RM 10 to RM 15. The hotel's complimentary shuttle service can also be arranged for local transfers, subject to availability.

Dining at Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel

The River Grill is the hotel's signature all-day dining restaurant, offering an enticing blend of Western and local cuisine set against a stunning riverside backdrop. Breakfast here is a highlight of any stay at Casa Del Rio, featuring a generous buffet spread that includes eggs cooked à la minute, sausages, freshly baked pastries, and a DIY noodle station alongside beloved Malaysian favourites such as nasi lemak and dim sum. Fresh-cut tropical fruits, cereals, and freshly brewed coffee and tea round out the morning offering. For lunch and dinner, The River Grill serves an à la carte menu showcasing grilled classics, pasta dishes, and local Melakan specialities including Nyonya laksa and chef's daily specials.

River Cafe provides a more casual dining experience right beside the Melaka River, serving a relaxed menu of Asian and Western dishes alongside refreshing mocktails and signature cocktails. Its open-air setting and laid-back atmosphere make it an ideal spot for a leisurely afternoon snack or a relaxed evening meal. For guests who prefer to dine in the privacy of their room, the hotel's 24-hour room service menu ensures that quality meals and beverages are available at any time of day or night.

Bar Sol, perched beside the rooftop infinity pool, is the hotel's most atmospheric drinking venue. With panoramic views across the Melaka skyline, it serves specialty cocktails and a selection of delicious tapas — perfect for sundowner drinks or a late-night tipple. Bar Rio, located on the ground level, offers a more intimate setting with live music performances, including pianists and vocalists, adding a touch of evening glamour to the Casa Del Rio experience. Together, the hotel's three restaurants and two bars ensure that guests need never venture far for exceptional food and drink, though the temptations of Jonker Street's legendary hawker fare are never more than a two-minute walk away.

Why Stay at Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel

Unrivalled riverside location in a UNESCO heritage city. Few hotels in Malaysia can claim such an intimate connection to their surroundings. Casa Del Rio sits directly on the Melaka River within the World Heritage Core Zone, placing centuries of history, culture, and culinary tradition quite literally at your doorstep. Walking out of the hotel lobby and into one of Southeast Asia's most fascinating historic quarters is an experience that no amount of luxury alone can replicate.

Boutique intimacy with five-star standards. With only 66 rooms, Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel offers a genuinely personal level of service that distinguishes it from larger chain properties. Staff recognise returning guests by name, and the smaller scale means that facilities such as the rooftop pool and Satkara Spa never feel overcrowded. Every room starts at a spacious 50 square metres, ensuring that boutique does not mean compact.

Exceptional suite offerings for families and celebrations. The hotel's collection of two-bedroom suites — the River Suite, Cheng Ho Suite, and Melaka Suite — provides families and groups with a range of luxurious multi-room options that are rare in Melaka's boutique hotel segment. The Melaka Suite's private courtyard with cold-water jacuzzi is particularly unique, offering an experience that would typically require a private villa.

A complete resort experience in the heart of the city. From the rooftop infinity pool and full-service spa to three distinct restaurants and live evening entertainment, Casa Del Rio delivers the breadth of amenities you would expect from a sprawling resort — all contained within an elegant riverside property in the centre of town. Complimentary WiFi, free parking, and a shuttle service add practical value to the indulgent experience.

Tips for Booking Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel

To secure the best value when booking Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel, consider travelling during weekdays or outside of Malaysian school holiday periods and major public holidays such as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year, when demand is typically highest. Melaka enjoys warm tropical weather year-round, but the drier months from March to October are especially pleasant for exploring the heritage district on foot.

When making your reservation on Traveloka, look out for bundled deals that combine accommodation with breakfast at The River Grill — the hotel's breakfast buffet is widely regarded as one of the finest in Melaka, and including it in your booking often represents better value than purchasing it separately. Early booking is strongly recommended for the Melaka Suite and Presidential Suite, as these premium accommodations are limited in number and tend to be reserved well in advance for peak weekends and festive seasons.

If you are celebrating a special occasion such as a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday, it is worth noting your celebration in the special requests field when booking. The hotel is known for arranging thoughtful in-room touches for guests marking milestones. Families with young children should consider requesting a Studio King Room for the additional day bed space, while groups of four or more adults will find the 2-Bedroom River Suite or Cheng Ho Suite far more comfortable and cost-effective than booking two separate rooms.

Finally, take full advantage of the hotel's complimentary shuttle service for trips to nearby shopping centres, and do not miss the Jonker Street Night Market on Friday and Saturday evenings — it is a short walk from Casa Del Rio and remains one of Melaka's most beloved experiences. Arriving at the hotel by mid-afternoon allows you to settle in, enjoy a dip in the rooftop pool during golden hour, and head out refreshed for an evening of riverside dining and heritage exploration.

Super welcoming, friendly and helpful reception staff. Loved their welcome cool towels and sorbet. The reception area is designed in such a way it channels the air and makes it very cool when returning from exploring. Room was very spacious, loved the outdoor patio area. Enjoyed the evening burner in the room for smell and for preventing mosquitoes. Loved the rooftop pool. Thought the breakfast was a bit blah. Staff seemed somewhat indifferent. Some of the food did not appear to be very fresh. Dining area was unpleasantly freezing cold (not just for us) so elected to sit outside. This area is inadequate for the number of people who elected to sit outdoors. Overall - not really value for money. So many other places also as handy location wise, that are much cheaper.

Staff are very attentive and rectify issue very quickly. The property decor gave us a feeling of going back in time. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Prefer to have dinner inside the restaurant rather than outdoor due to weather elements and mosquitoes. Security guard at the front is very helpful, friendly and carry our luggages to the taxi boot.

Generally a pleasant experience but the coffee maker in the room malfunctioned and destroyed 2 of the coffee pods ... we asked for replacements which came after 30 minutes... we paid £130 for one night so imagine my surprise when we were asked to pay for the extra coffee pods on checking out. Surely for that price a few replacement coffee pods should have been provided FOC. Disappointed 😞

Great hotel, large rooms, lovely staff and great location in the centre of the tourism area. Really enjoyed our stay a breakfast was included and had lots of choice. Our only problem was the pool was closed for refurbishing for a couple of week which coincided with our stay. We were not aware this would be the case when we booked a couple of weeks earlier. There was a lovely pool at their next door property though which they kindly escorted us to. Think this is probably the best hotel and location for Melaka centre.

Very wonderful, friendly staff. We stayed 4 nights and was advised by the B/F staff that they would provide us with "special" cuisine to prevent us from getting bored with their B/F options. We felt that there were plently of choices. We had special.meals on the 3rd & 4th day specially prepared for us by their chefs. I had stayed 10Nights at 2 different Singapore hotels & no one considered we may be bored with their B/F options. Also, the hotel manager met us and responded to our queries re where to find local peranakan cuisine. She helped organize transport for us to get to our destinations without difficulty..Highly recommend all who vidit Melaka to stay at Casa Del Rio

It is a nice & unique hotel with spacious room. But i was shocked to see a big lizard in my room . I really allergic to this species . Otherwise everything will be fine and comfortable. The hotel jetty is near & easy for us to get the night cruise . The area also close to jonker street ,

A haven in the middle of the old town buzz of Melaka. Tranquil and restful with a beautiful clean pool on the roof overlooking the river. Nicest touch was the oil burners lit in your room each night. Thank you

We were given a room facing the river and it has a nice view. The room is huge and so is the bathroom. There was a wide variety of food at breakfast. It was great. Staffs are friendly too. Thank you for allowing us to check in before 3pm.
