Not on the radar normally
Would never have considered a Marriott Hotel option. The wife picked this hotel due to resort style eg balcony, pool side etc. The room was spacious. Food options eg buffet breakfast good, room service quick. Pool large. Being on the coast you would expect beach side enjoyment, but the hotel sits between the beach and a rock wall. So dont expect to get beach sand between the toes. We hired a car, so easy access to town. Its a pleasant enough experience for around A$120 a night.

Beautiful grounds, great bakery & shuttle bus service
We stayed on-and-off at the Miri Marriott for a number of months between 2016 & 2017. The pool, grounds & views are beautiful, and there are two other points about the resort that helped to make our stay very pleasant. The first thing is the Borneo Bakery Company (BBC) which I dearly hope is still operating at the resort. During our stay the BBC was on the right-hand-side as you entered the main foyer. It's one of the few places in Miri that make made-to-order sandwiches/rolls/toasties etc. The staff at the BBC (Jelik, Junnai, Rosni & Safri) are the best! They are friendly, professional and attentive and I greatly appreciated their tireless efforts to accommodate my dietary requirements, they never made me feel like I asked for anything out of the ordinary. The setting of the cafe is relaxed and well-shaded in the spacious, open-air lobby which gives the cafe an outdoor feel. They serve a range of coffees - hot or iced, teas, soft-drinks, etc and most of the breads, rolls, cakes and biscuits are made on-site by the Marriott bakers and pastry chefs. It's a great place to have a light meal or stop for a coffee/tea or an ice cream. A small, handy gift shop was attached to the BBC at that time. Another great point about the resort is that it offers a complimentary shuttle bus service that drops guests off and picks up at designated stops several times a day. The shuttle bus staff; Hussainee, Awang Ku, Sim and Ronnie are personable and professional. They are very helpful and will discuss with you where best to drop you off for shopping, meals, movies, etc. It is true that the rooms in the main building are tired. At the time of our leaving nearly all of the chalet rooms had been rebuilt or refurbished. We stayed in the chalet rooms for a couple of months and then moved to the main building for the remainder of our stay as that suited our needs better. The resort will be even more amazing once the main building rooms have been refurbished next year. The housekeeping staff did a marvelous job of keeping the older main building rooms looking good. Thank you (Bouwie, Evelyn, Eileen, Georgia, Jolie, Julia, Lily, Lintana, Madu, Maureen) for your efforts. Finally, if you get stuck for anything or need advice on Miri or Malaysia or even further afield, seek out Roy or Lonnie, who are like fonts of knowledge, no kidding :-). Thank you Roy and Lonnie for your generous assistance, you two are simply fantastic! Thanks also to Marc Cousins.

Amazing gem in the jungle
I recently stayed here with my family including my grandson who is four. He loved the beautiful pool, which was great to jump into after a day trecking in the jungle. The rooms are huge with gorgeous beds, and everything you could wish for. The resort is cleverly designed around the jungle so walking to your room means you see amazing creatures!! This was exciting for me as I’m from the uk! The shuttle takes you to and from the park when ever needed and similarly they are on call for your airport run. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Very kind nd to my grandson making sure he had what he liked at meal times. My advice stay here if you can and factor at least one night out of your busy jungle treck to enjoy the beautiful facility!!

Good Stay
Been staying here regularly on business so staff were keen I review. Good Points: Staff are great. Check in and Check Out is easy and staff are helpful. Breakfast is great. Nice coffee and good selection of food. Eggs to order are always nice. Rooms on the wings are excellent and cleaned but see my points below. Negative Points: Behind the bed on the floor was filthy. Months of neglect I think. I have to agree on previous points, mildew growing behind the sink etc. I also learned back in May 2017 not to buy a drink at the pool bar. MYR 45 I was charged if I remember. Stopped me going anyway. No problem to me, I can get a Grab into town and buy a colder beer for MYR 16! To be fair the lobby bar has more reasonable deals. Sad but I guess this is why the hotel seems empty during the week. I continue to stay here on business though.

A tale of two hotels
If only the system allowed me to write 2 reviews for the same place as we stayed a night a week apart either side of our time in Mulu and out experiences could not have different. Our first night was arriving on the last flight from Kuching and had us checking in about 2200. The staff while helpful, didn't smile the entire time and spent more time yawning and rolling their eyes at each other over actually checking us in. The room was in the main block, it was small, musty and in poor condition. The bathroom was full of mould in the corners and the toilet was not the overly clean (last tenants stains evident). If this was our only stay the rating would be 1 * Our second stay was after arriving from Mulu and we checked in mid afternoon. The staff were buzzing with energy and full of smiles, our room this time was in one of the wings about 300m from the main block. The room was large and spacious, immaculately furnished and completely spotless. The rest of our time the staff were amazingly helpful and a pleasure to deal with. If this was our only experience the hotel would be given 5* The buffet breakfast was pretty standard for all hotels we have stayed in within Malaysia (in fact Muslim majority Asian countries). Best options are the fresh omelette and the worst is the salted beef bacon. We ate our lunches and evening meals away from the hotel so can not comment on the food served then. Room Tip: On check in if your room has only 3 numbers (eg 312) ask for a room in the wings and it will have 4 numbers (eg 1115) and from our experience you will have a much better nights sleep.
