Penang Old House is very comfortable and lovely place to stay. Me and family really have pleasant stay at this property. The owner and staff really friendly and helpful. The parking spot is free and easy to park our car even our car considered huge. Good environment and very understanding guests. Maybe because most of guests are traveller. For travellers who had limited budget below MYR70, you might want to try this homestay and feel the heritage. Eateries all within walking distance. 7-11 also within walking distance. This accommodation really above my expectations. Very clean and comfortable. Well understanding owner which setup everything in very professional. Including security, comfortability and mostly safety of the guests. I can see this owner might be a traveller himself. Thumbs up and my gratitude for your best hospitality services.

Best Room Choice

The best room choice depends on your travel style and budget. If you're travelling solo or on a tight budget, a dormitory-style room may be the most economical option. If you prefer more privacy and comfort, a private room with an en-suite bathroom is a good choice. Families may want to consider a family room for more space.

What to Pack

When packing for your trip to Penang, be sure to bring lightweight and breathable clothing, as the weather can be hot and humid. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring the city's streets and heritage sites. Don't forget to pack sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.

Language and Customs

The common language spoken in Penang is English, along with Malay and Chinese dialects. It's helpful to learn a few basic Malay phrases, such as "Terima kasih" (thank you) and "Selamat pagi" (good morning). When visiting religious sites, dress modestly and remove your shoes before entering.

Best Time to Stay at Penang Old House Homestay

The best time to visit Penang depends on your preferences and tolerance for heat and humidity.

Seasonal Advice

The dry season, from November to March, is generally considered the best time to visit Penang, as the weather is sunny and less humid. However, this is also peak season, so expect higher prices and more crowds. The shoulder seasons, from April to May and September to October, offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer tourists. The rainy season, from June to August, can be hot and humid, with frequent showers.

Event-Based Travel Tips

Penang hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, such as the George Town Festival in August and the Penang International Food Festival in April. If you're interested in attending these events, be sure to book your accommodation well in advance. University holidays can also affect the availability and prices of accommodation, so plan accordingly.

The place is very nice, the rooms are cute (there is a Doraemon & Hellokitty theme), the living room and dining room are all well organized and conceptual. The house is clean, the owner of the house is also very friendly and helpful. AC is cold, there is hot water for bathing, hot water for eating pop noodles is also there. There is a fridge in the living room. Not far from the city center (I went to Xing Fu Tang on foot). Near the hotel there are places to sell good and cheap food.

I like the location, it's easy to go everywhere but the place is really very, very dirty, days of garbage are not taken, the room smells musty, the bathroom is also only one that functions so it has to queue with others. maybe quite once.

The place is lovely. The ground is a small restaurant. The room is clean, much space for 3 people. The host is nice and helpful. We have all the tips about route and attractions. It’s about 1 km from Komta sentral- 15 mins walking. But most of the road is one way, so it might take you 30-45 minutes traveling by bus as it goes round and round. It’s perfect way to have the town sightseeing.

Clean enough there are no cockroaches and mice, close to Gleneagles, friendly owner, safer, close to where to eat. Only the guard is often not in the place so it's hard to ask this if there is a need. For beds and bed linen, please keep them clean. There might be mites because it is a bit itchy when sleeping in the Hello Kitty room.

Feels like home. A fairy home. Everything was appeared much more than i expected. the host is so elegent and lives nearby, we hardly met him but thats the thing makes it your home cos you can do anything under clear directions written around the house. Good foods are in surroundings. Appreciated that host let us in until night waiting for leaving for KL bus without any words but No problems, and under no observations, again, it feels like home. This is the 1st time i wrote a review like this. Cons: the light in my white room was so close to the bed and that's the only one for the whole room so i can't help with it, need a gentle sleep lamp. Wifi really needs to be improved.
