Beautiful and Relaxing Trip
This review is only for the experience on the island. When we first arrived to the island after a long transit, we were amazed by the white sands and the clear clean seas. The resort has many different activities, and to us, snorkeling is enough for the entire trip. We did one day out with the boats and the other times, we just snorkel around the island and believe me, it's one of the most beautiful and clear water you'll ever see. The island doesn't have a strong wifi signal, only the lobby and dining area has wifi but it's slow, so don't bring your laptop or ipads because it's useless to use it for uploads. The food is buffet style and it's really good, I love the fish dishes and the local vegetables, you will eat well when you are on the island. The staffs on the island is very friendly, our snorkeling guide takes us to all the beautiful places and will tow you around if you are not a good swimmer, that really helps for the long day of being in the water (just buy them some beer at dinner for their hard work). Part of the island is also a military base (the north end) but they are also very friendly, so don't worry when you see them with weapons, they are harmless. My advice when you book the trip is to choose the better cabins. The regular cabins are located in the center of the island, and it's not very comfortable or private. We upgraded to the cabins by the sea when we arrived on the island, and in my opinion, it's totally worth it (huge jacuzzi/bathroom and incredible views depending on which side the cabin is, for us, it's sunrise everyday). This is a great place if you love to dive or snorkel, even if you do not do any water activity it's still a great place to just relax and clear your mind. After staying in this resort, I will visit more places like this in the future because of the experience I had on the island.

Warning: bed bugs
We stayed at the Reef Dive Resort for four night. Two in a garden view room and two in a beach villa. The island is beautiful and serene, and dive centre staff are friendly and helpful. Food is average but for the price we paid we definitely expected better. Okay, now let's talk about the bed bugs. After the first night in a garden view room, I noticed a few red spots on both of my arms. Similar to mosquito bites but smaller. I have never experienced bed bug bites before so I wasn't sure what it was. Went to the reception for advise, and the staff told me they don't know what it is and suggested me to buy some cream from their shop. Went to the shop, got told that they only have mosquito repeller. At this point, I've talked to at least four resort staff and no one mentioned beg bugs. They all just shook their heads and told me it's something they have never seen before, which made me even more nervous, worrying it might an allergic reaction or other rare diseases. So I slept in the same bed for a second night, and this time when I woke up, I was covered by beg bug bites. My arms, legs, chest and back. Can't tell you now how scary I looked. My right arm is the worst, with over 40 bites!!! Sent a picture of the bites to family and friends and one mentioned bed bug. I googled and saw some bed bug bites pictures exactly like mine. So I went back to reception. The second I mentioned 'bed bug', the staff all of a sudden seem to know everything about it. The sheets and pillow cases were changed within five minutes. And that's all the Resort did. No one said anything about it, no apology. The last two night we moved in a beach villa (what we paid for, not an upgrade or compensation from the resort), which was so much bigger and clearer. I didn't get more bites in the new room. I have holiday in Asia pacific every year and I love spending time on remote islands. I understand with limited resources we can't expect the standard five star comfort. However when I pay top dollars for a resort which advertises itself as the the most luxurious resort in Semporna, I don't think it's too much to ask for basic cleanness. I'm also extremely disappointed by the ignorance of the staff. I can't believe they let me slept in the same infested bed for a second night. It was so disgusting to think about it. Anyways, Semporna worths a visit and Sipadan is a must. The Reef Dive Resort? Only if you like sharing bed with tiny crawling creatures.

Amazing jewel in the Celebes Sea - a must for Sipidan diving
We stayed here for 4 nights accompanying a friend of ours from Malaysia. This was a wonderful island paradise. From all of our research the best resort for a Sipidan diving experience. As a diver it has everything you could want. The diving and snorkelling is exquisite and really something for everyone's bucket list. The staff particularly are amazingly friendly and welcoming one and all. Special mention to the dive crew Hardy, Mel, Yin and Telly all amazing and very professional. We stayed in a villa and it was spacious and well appointed. The island is very keen on conservation so some of the amenities one might be used to like daily towel changes will not happen. Food is buffet style and caters for a range of tastes and was without exception good. This is not the Four Seasons but is certainly a place to stay if you want to explore the amazing aquatic life and take a must do trip to Sipidan. Be warned that there is limited space and they can only take 7 guests per trip. The island is also home to a military base so is very safe. The internet is limited but that is a good thing to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life We would definitely recommend this resort as part of any trip to Malaysia

Nice location, but doubts about value for money
The resort is so far the only one on Mataking Island (but there is currently another one in construction). Most of staff is very friendly and polite. We stayed one night in the more expensive Villa and then moved to the King Chalets. And the chalets are definitely the better choice as they are also stand-alones but not so close to each other as the Villas. What definitely is something everyone interested in coming here should consider is the value for money. The resort is for sure a nice one but we think the price is way to high for what you get. The rooms are not high end and the food is good but not so good as one might think because of the price. Also be sure that you are very comfortable with the Chinese way of behavior as approx. 95% of the guests were Chinese.
