I am satisfied, very good and nice, good location
It was nice. Room was okay and suits the price I paid.
Nice room. Simple but cozy. Have separated kitchen. AC is very cool. Near river and in middle of city. The receptionist named Oliver is very nice. And also the angora cat. Unfortunately my wife has 3 month pregnant so it's difficult to use stairs. Next time must go there with my friend.
Extremely helpful staff. Very clean but tiny room. Best value for money.
A great place to stay and enjoy your holiday. Love it
Nice environment, cosy bed with a great price and nice decoration of the place.
Cosy bed and nice decoration of the room
Recommended for backpacker with tight budget.
The hotel has a beautiful interior decoration with an excellent cleanliness. A friendly owner who can help the tourist in planning the travelling. I recommended this hotel...
It's interesting even though I'm quite tired climbing the stairs.

Great location
We stayed for 4 nights and woodpecker offered us exactly what we were looking for. Cleen, reasonable price, A/C and a very good location. Staff was friendly and very kind. Star down is for size of the room, which was a little bit small.

Backpacker-friendly; Great value for your money
I had a good stay overall at Woodpecker Lodge for 4 nights. The staff here is super friendly & helpful. It is an absolutely backpacker-friendly place, and a great place to stay in Kuching for such an excellent price. They also offer tours & airport transfers here. I didn’t book any tours with them as I decided to do everything independently but they were very helpful in letting me know where to catch the bus to the places I wanted to visit. Woodpecker Lodge is in a very good location as it’s close to restaurants (you can even just go downstairs & find a restaurant next door), 7-11 convenience stores, banks/ATMS (right at the corner), city sights & the riverwalk, and bus stop to Bako Nat’l Park (1 block away). The room I stayed in was definitely a budget room for a solo traveler - with a twin bed, separated by a see-through glass divider & door to the toilet / bathroom. There is a hot water shower, but the water pressure kept changing and so did the temperature, so that was very annoying. My room had no A/C, just a fan, but that was fine for me. WiFi worked pretty well in the room.

You get what you pay for! This was the cheapest place I found on hostel world which looked decent... at 19.90RM, you get what you pay for. Stayed here as we was on the last bit of our trip and wanted to be cheap! Booked for a 4 dorm mixed room that comes with an ensuite. Had no toilet paper, the shower gel dispenser or whatever it was was pretty empty. The toilet is facing the wall so it's a bit cramped to sit on it properly! You end up sitting on the side of it instead. Old mattresses with a dent right in the middle of the bed! They need new mattresses, it's not good for the back! The lockers are a bit sh** dodgy locks they provide with dodgy keys and can get into other locks! Not safe! The rooms are far too hot! On their hostelworld site they didn't have an option about having air con or fan rooms. So that wasn't great! We had a fan room, Which was okay I guess. The whole room could do with an update though, paint the rooms and ceilings. Got a dodgy stick poking out the wall. We've been here for 3 nights now and since then a girl had stayed for one night. No one has come in to change the sheets or nothing. Probably leave it as that for the next guest! Gross! Our bins are filled to the brim with loads more rubbish. The sign on our door says the rubbish will be emptied daily. No one has bothered to come in and empty it. There has been a locked locker and empty ones but full of rubbish which they haven't emptied out either! Its not nice for guests to come and use a locker to find its full of cr*p inside! There is hardly ever anyone on reception! What kind of hostel/guesthouse is This!? You just want water and you can't just take it.. So gotta wait for God knows how long! You want toilet paper but there's no one there so you go and hunt for some on your own and find it in some spare room! You use the kitchen.. but didn't even know you was allowed in till you saw some guests in there! Due to their unfunny sacarstic signs on the door, you would have thought you're not allowed in. You was never told of what facilities you could use. Never told what time was check out. Never told about nothing! You just gotta find out yourself! They have 2 cats! Which stinks of them as soon as you go in. You're not allowed touch them (not like I want to anyways) due to them fighting some lethal disease. Eww. They do tours and airport transfers but it's so expensive! I wouldn't bother going with them. We used grab to go to the orangutan place and they charge 70RM per person! We paid 29RM each! They also charge 30Rm to the airport! Yet again use grab which is about 14RM if that! It's in a good location and cheap but apart from that I don't think I would stay here again.

Great atmosphere .. and price.
Best place .... location is great. The rooftop area has an awesome view and cold drinks ... rooms are small but really good for the price. Love this place. Will def stay here again next time I visit Kuching.

Better places to stay in Kuching
This was one of my worst hostel experiences. The rooms are grim and a bit depressing (I was in reception for 10 mins and a couple left when they saw the room having already paid and I reduced my stay to 1 night also). Rooms don't look like the pictures. You have to pay 10 Ringgits per night to upgrade to ac and it is very hot in Kuching. The worst thing about this place is the service. The moody French guy on reception is the last person you'll want to speak to after a long journey and the manager Oliver is very rude and pretty bad at customer service. They charge more for a taxi to the airport than if you walk to the taxi rank by the big hotel around the corner. I woke up with 2 suspicious bites on my hips (which they claimed were spider bites). The good thing about this place is the French girl organised a trip for some of the residents which was very kind of her. The location is also good.
